Why I'm reversing course on John McCain
Vanity | Sept 9, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 09/08/2008 12:55:29 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Governor Sarah Palin! Or, actually, what she signifies.

We've often stated on FR that if the Republicans would only run true conservatives then we'd win more elections. We'd keep the White House, build conservative majorities in congress, replace liberal activist judges with original intent constitutionalists, and eventually overturn Roe v Wade and begin rolling back some of the damage inflicted upon our beloved republic by the socialists and liberals.

John McCain's bold choice of the unabashed pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-liberty, small government, strong defense, fiscal conservative, Sarah Palin, signifies a return to conservatism within the Republican Party.

And the fact that Republicans and conservatives of every stripe, including the Christian right are flocking to her side and that the conservative grassroots has been re-energized literally overnight is proof that when offered the choice of truly conservative candidates, conservatives and Republicans will react accordingly.

Even though I've stated in the past that I would not vote for McCain, I will be supporting this ticket. Governor Palin is a God-fearing, kick butt conservative and I'd much rather have her advising and standing in the wings for the presidency than Joe Biden. I'll definitely pull the lever for her. And I'll do all I possibly can to keep the America-hating Marxist Barack Hussein Obama out of the White House.

Do it for Life. Do it for Liberty. Do it for our troops. Do it for America!

This seems to summarize both of our positions

There are two reasons I'm voting for McCain - Sarah Palin and Barack Obama. To just stand by and let someone as dangerous as Obama get elected is the height of irresponsibility.

I don't care much for McCain himself, but the alternative is something I cannot stomach.

You should remember that you only got Palin because we held John McCain’s feet to the fire and we can do even more. I don’t have a problem for McCain voters I just hope you’ll all continue to keep the heat on.

I’ll give it a look, Jim. Miss Slippy and I are inclined to agree with you, Sarah Palin’s a game-changer.

I too echo your sentiments...

After the Saddleback performance, it looked as though McCain had finally hit his stride, connecting with that forum in Orange County, while Obama literally stumbled and crashed.

...The Palin pick was nothing short of brilliant, to quote Rush, and has since cemented the base, and removed my reservations about McCain and the GOP. I will also help to send this team to the Oval Office.

“Palin is the spoonful of sugar that makes the McCain medicine go down.”

Yep, it’s the usual hold your nose and do what is necessary and vote not for the “R” ticket if only to defeat leftist B.O. and the socialists.

JimRob: Maverick McCain, you just did an incredibly brave thing. What you should have done was land your campaign! you don't own that campaign, the voters do! Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash. You've been busted, you lost your qualifications as section leader three times, put in hack twice by me, with a history of high speed passes over five air control towers, and one admiral's daughter!
Sarah Barracuda: Hillery Clinton?
[Maverick McCain shrugs]
JimRob: And you asshole, you're lucky to be here! Sarah Barracuda: Thank you, sir.
JimRob: And let's not bull**** Maverick McCain. Your family name ain't the best in the Navy. You need to be doing it better, and cleaner than the other guy. Now what is it with you? Maverick McCain: Just want to serve my country, be the best pilot in the Navy, sir.
JimRob: Don't screw around with me Maverick McCain. You're a hell of an instinctive pilot. Maybe too good. I'd like to bust your butt but I can't. I got another problem here. I gotta send somebody from this squadron to Washington. I gotta do something here, I still can believe it. I gotta give you your dream shot! I'm gonna send you up against the best. You two characters are going to the White House.

Politics is often about pragmatism. McCain has thrown conservatives the largest, juiciest bone he could find in Palin.

He’s made himself a deal with me.

Suddenly McCain’s age isn’t so much of an issue, either. In fact, I find myself wishing he was 20 years older! :)

I can certainly handle four (or even eight) years of McCain in return for eight years of Palin!

A month ago I could only think of two good reasons to vote for McCain - Obama and Biden. Now I have three good reasons (Palin). I told my wife that I would be more enthusiastic if Palin was running for President and McCain VP.
