Democrats sue over how Gregoire's opponent is ID'd {Dino Rossi - GOP }

Olympia, Wash. (AP) -- Washington state Democrats sued a state official Tuesday to get a Republican listed on the ballot, arguing a candidate is obscuring his party identity by ballot language that says he "prefers GOP party."

The candidate, Dino Rossi, is facing a rematch this November with Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire, who beat him by 133 votes four years ago after three counts and a court challenge.

The lawsuit the party filed against Secretary of State Sam Reed argues that "allowing Mr. Rossi to obscure his true party preference and affiliation directly violates the law, would mislead a substantial portion of the voting public and would breed cynicism and mistrust in our public institutions and, indeed, in our electoral process."

Under Washington's new "top two" primary system, Rossi was allowed to pick how he wanted to be identified. Local polling has shown some voter confusion about the Republican nickname GOP, an abbreviation for Grand Old Party.

The Democratic party is seeking an emergency temporary restraining order that would prevent ballot printing until the court makes a decision. A hearing on the request is scheduled Wednesday, Democratic spokesman Kelly Steele said.

The lawsuit argues that there are only two major political parties recognized under Washington law and that Reed should not have allowed a nickname.

Most ballots to military and overseas voters are mailed on Oct. 5, and remaining ballots in the state's largely vote-by-mail election are mailed Oct. 17. Reed, a Republican, said counties are getting those ballots ready.

Gregoire campaign spokesman Aaron Toso said the incumbent would not challenge any military ballots with Rossi identified as GOP rather than Republican.

Some ballots already have been sent.

Make every vote count, but only if it's a Democrat, huh?

So, is there anything in this system that prevents him to do that?

yep, all things are possible in that democRAT liberal cesspool up there.

Well, the most odious contents of the "cesspool" are predominantly concentrated on the west side of the state. A poll was conducted after the election, recounts and court case which resulted in greg-wahr's eventual selection. As I remember, well over 50% did not think she had gotten the most votes. That meant that even a significant number of dummy crats didn't think she really won.

And the court case found about 8 times as many illegal votes as the margin of victory (mostly felons).

But the judge ruled that the law didn’t provide a remedy.

He did expect the outcry to cause the legislature to act to fix the law. But with the dem controlled media of course there was no outcry.

So Dems complain that Bush stole Florida in 2000 (never proven but they certainly stole Washington in 2004.

I wish people weren’t so quick to write off Washington. There are lots of us who have been waiting 4 years to settle this score.

I couldn’t figure out why Rossi’s party ID was different than every other Republican on the ballot when I got mine and this still doesn’t explain it.

In my county there were so many races without Republicans in them at all that I just wrote my own name into about 12 races. Oddly, I didn’t win any of them.

There are more people in this state that prefer Rossi then prefer Gregoire. And the majority know he got that election stolen from him. The problem is there are people who like him, but vote sraight line Democrat because they have a bias against the Republican brand. Rossi’s simply using the new law to advantage by whitewashing the brand so it’s his name alone appealing to people. Democrats obviously wouldn’t want that to happen, but they helped with the law so who are they to complain now that it doesn’t work to their favor?

Indeed. If it were not for the trees, mountains and saltwater, I wouldn’t have lived here.

Fortunately, I seldom have to be in the same airspace with the filthy creatures that crawl around in the lib areas.... such as Seattle.

"The lawsuit argues that there are only two major political parties recognized under Washington law and that Reed should not have allowed a nickname."

So all those Independent Party, Constitutional Party, American Socialist, and Communist Party candidates listed in my voters pamphlet shouldn't be there? Damn. Someone shoulda' told 'em.

Well said. They're definitely afraid of him, and are counting on votes from voters so stupid they don't know what GOP means, just that the last letter is ***PARTY***

The best way to do that is by delivering Washington State for McCain/Palin. Then for Dino Rossi.

You do that, and Obama loses. BIG.

The Washington rat knows his own. He knows some of his troope are stupid and might vote for Rossi thinking he is also a member of the same troope. Isn’t it funny how close races force the rat to honesty?
