Australia and New Zealand issued recalls Thursday for an imported Chinese candy that was found to contain the industrial chemical melamine.
New Zealand Food Safety Authority spokesman Geoff Allen said Thursday morning that he expected the White Rabbit Creamy Candies to be off shelves within 24 hours.
"This product contains sufficiently high levels of melamine which may, in some individuals, cause health problems such as kidney stones," deputy chief executive Sandra Daly said in a statement posted Wednesday on the agency's Web site. "The levels we have found in these products are unacceptable."

Note: according to a USA Today article, the candy is also sold in Asian markets at the US.
The f&*king Chinese are trying to poison everybody on the planet.
Now it’s poisoned candy, last week tainted milk, and the chosen one thinks China is superior to the United States:
But, it’s not really surprising that a Marxist would think a Communist country would be superior to one founded on capitalism.
Whoa what chemical is in these candies??? I knew there was something funny about the name..................
White Rabbit Creamy Candies....I’m seeing all these colors..
White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don’t do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she’s ten feet tall
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you’re going to fall
Tell ‘em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Recall Alice
When she was just small
When men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you’ve just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving slow
Go ask Alice
I think she’ll know
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen’s “off with her head!”
Remember what the dormouse said;
“FEED YOUR HEAD

LOL
And the dishware spiked with lead paint... Ah the delight of the “lowest bidder.”
ANYONE who buys a consumable product for humans or pets that is made in china is NUTS !
We need more labeling! WARNING: PRODUCTS MADE IN CHINA MAY CAUSE DEATH.
If it’s not melamine, it’s lead.
I won’t buy anything related to food made in china, including dishes. Don’t know if they are using lead based glaze.
Those really cute gel pops that you see everywhere are made in china.
Are they trying to get rid of melamine? or are they making food in the same plants as melamine dishes? melamine covered furniture?
Won’t buy food unless made in USA.
I won’t buy pet food unless made in USA either.
You bring back some memories. I was able to see Grace Slick perform that in concert.
What’s even more scary is that many companies are importing ingredients from China to put in food products that are made in the US and they are not labeled as such. I was reading somewhere that Sara Lee products were made with flour imported from China. When I ran into the Bread rep filling the shelves of my grocery store, I asked him and he called his supervisor. His boss said they “used to” but not anymore. Whether they were still using imported flour one never knows.
She has an amazing voice.......too bad she “ruined” it for me by being in “Jefferson Starship”...UGHHHH! LOL
We do indeed. But alas, (much of) the GOP isn't on our side.
We used to eat off of the things every day when I was a kid! :-(
Found this on wikipedia....
“Melamine is sometimes unethically added to food products in order to increase the apparent protein content. Standard tests such as the Kjeldahl and Dumas tests estimate protein levels by measuring the nitrogen content, so they can be misled by adding nitrogen-rich compounds such as melamine.”
“Melamine by itself is nontoxic in low doses, but when combined with cyanuric acid it can cause fatal kidney stones.”
I was letting my MP3 player do its thing today and ‘Blows Against the Empire’ came on. Love that album.
I have to admit, almost every time I see Grace now, I want to cry. It’s not that she looks bad, but I’ll always think of her as she was at Woodstock. Time marches on; easy to see in others, a little harder to see in ourselves.
