McCain blasts Congress for blocking bailout plan
KARE 11 ^ | 9/29/08 | staff

Posted on 09/29/2008 8:18:14 PM PDT by pissant

Republican presidential candidate John McCain had sharp words for Congress, it the wake of the defeat of the financial system rescue plan.

"They wiped out $1.2 trillion today," the Arizona Senator told KARE 11, "Congress's failure to act today is not acceptable."

Despite pleas from President Bush and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, lawmakers rejected the bailout bill by a vote of 228-205. By the time the New York Stock Exchange closed, the Dow Industrial average had plummeted 777 points.

Answering questions via satellite from Des Moines, Iowa McCain chided those from both sides of the aisle who opposed the plan.

"This is a time of severe crisis, maybe the greatest crisis of our life time," McCain told KARE, "Our failure to act is going to cause problems not only in America, but globally."

Some opposed the package because it didn't do enough to directly address the hardships faced by those stuck in with mortgage foreclosure troubles and, in some cases, predatory loan rates.

Other resistance came from those who are fundamentally opposed to such a massive influx of government aid, at a time when the United States treasury is already straddled with record debt.

Still others remain unconvinced that buying up lenders' bad debt bring trangible results to average people when it comes to easing the credit crisis.

Dick Morris may have been right for once. Mccain should have been opposing this bailout from the get-go. He could have found himself going against an unpopular President and Congress, and being on the side of 77% of the people. He's stuck now.

You blew it McCain.

KARE 11 doesn't do it for me, true media substance is a minimal requirement to say the least.

That’s a darned ignorant thing to say. In his own words McCain doesn’t understand the economy. He’s proving himself correct.

McCain was right when he once said something about not understanding economics as much as he'd like.

Right now, --any-- bill that has Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Hank Paulson's support, with smiles on their faces, must be defeated.

If that means this financial ship goes down, and we throw out all the bums in Washington, then good. At least maybe these rats will drown.

McCain is flipping clueless on this subject. So is Obama for that matter, but he has the good fortune to be running for the Party of the Crass, Clueless and Corrupt, so this is a resume enhancement for Obama.

He is blasting Congress for not passing something that 77% of the people do not want?

Juan has a rather nasty habit of being against what We The People want. One only need look at his track record of supporting amnesty for illegals, bailouts for Wall Street, and carbon cap-and-trade to see what I'm talking about. The only difference this time is that he was so busy campaigning that he didn't have time to jump in and help author this mess.

Governor Palin gave Senator McCain a much better
chance to be POTUS.
Senator McCain will lower his chance if he blesses
this loot America bill.

I watched the interview.

I’ll vote for him. You can go vote for BHO. I think the country will be better off with McCain.

He’s certainly trying to. Fortunately for him, he is running against a radical POS marxist, so he still has a chance, despite himself.

Reading the whole article he was going after both Rats and republicans. It’s a tight spot to be in, especially with the MSM yapping everywhere about this. At the bottom of the note, an 0bama spokesman made also called for a fix. The McCain camp did blame Pelosi for this, which is being called a partisan attack.

We have to wait and see what happens now. What Pelosi will bring in. The next move will determine this.

The European banks are melting down and the world stock indices are down as well. Why? Because our financial house is out of order and we are sparking a global recession. There is no confidence in our banking system and don’t think it isn’t going to hurt us. There has to be action.

Bush screwed up by letting Paulson run with this plan. It was terrible. The Republicans got it closer to reasonable but they had too far to go at the outset. They sold the problem badly and now no one believes that there is a serious problem coming our way.

McCain blew it by not playing a more active role and standing up for a better solution.

before i also jump on mccain, need his full quotes. If you look at the little snippets so far, he’s not saying he support or not support the bailout, only that no action is being taken by congress...

Yes, I was going to say the same thing.

Yeah, well the country would be better off with a dead rodent in the oval office instead of Obama. That does not mean the dead rodent will get more votes. McCain has to show that ‘fiscal conservatism’ he was bragging about in the primary if he wants to win.
