A software CEO from Texas accused of allowing the killing of his neighbor's bison in South Park last winter is due in court.

Forty-four-year-old Jeffrey Scott Hawn of Austin has been charged with 32 counts of animal cruelty, one count of theft of more than $20,000 and a one count of criminal mischief. Prosecutors allege that he "tortured, needlessly mutilated or needlessly killed" the bison, who belonged to another rancher.

It was from the 1800’s thru the 1970’s.

Then the hippies and druggies moved in.

this guy had a fence, the bison keep knocking it down...so after quite a few knockdowns, and the bison’s owner refusing to do anything, or even fix the fence, the dude had them shot ..the mistake he made was shooting the ones not on his property

Mr. Hawn has 32 criminal charges against him...

The property Mr. Hawn owns isn’t used as a ranch; it’s just a vacation area. In the first place, a rancher doesn’t hate animals and KILL them!

There isn’t any one that knows that the buffalo did any damage to anything; they’re just guessing.

It could have been a herd of elk that stays in that area; or even Hawn’s horses rubbing on his solar panels and TV dishes could have been the problem.

Investigators allege that in a letter dated Feb. 25, Hawn authorized the slaughter by members of the Aztlan Native Community of Gardner.

He told the group he wanted them “to get started as quickly as possible.

AH! There was a letter then! What the papers said when it happened was “verbal agreement” sort of thing.

I never have actually HEARD what the shooters themselves had to say. But, they kinda “ain’t guilty”. (I mean they were doing something on private property, thought the animals belonged to the guy and we have several of those places here in Colorado where you go in, buy an animal, shoot it yourself and then it’s yours to take home)

Authorities were first notified of the slaughter on March 19 when the Downares called 911 to report shots being fired at the bison. When deputies arrived, they discovered 14 people shooting at bison. They called a cease-fire and confiscated 12 rifles.

One of the shooters, identified in the affidavit as Antonino Salcedo, immediately turned over a letter written by Stephen Csajaghy, a Denver lawyer, and signed by his client, Jeff Hawn.

No fool, Antonino Salcedo liked the idea of getting free bison meat, but wanted a notarized letter from John Norman granting him and his pals permission for the hunt. It was provided.

On that March 19 morning, though, Salcedo and the others arrived to find at least 16 bison already lying dead, none even remotely dressed out for harvest.

They would shoot others on the Hawn property, adjacent Bureau of Land Management lands and on neighboring property. Investigators found that at least seven of the 16 cow bison killed prior to March 19 were about to calve.

Yes, the outsiders moved into Custer County which is just south of Canon City, and they literally took over. Bought up everything they could lay hands on, and got on the county commission then ran taxes out through the roof and broke those who were left. Now the entire county is owned by Texas and California liberal money. Many old people got evicted from their homes because they had no way to pay the taxes. Check out Custer County, its on the web.

Pretty amazing for a Florida boy to go out to Montana or Wyoming and see all the open range signs. Don’t think I’ve seen one east of the Mississippi.

The rancher I talked to was from around the Paonia area. Must be going on across the whole State.

It’s a shame a plea deal is being offered. He deserves to be convicted of a felony and pay full restitution as well as stiff fines. His attorneys fees would cost a bunch more having to go thru a trial not to mention the possibility of jail time.
