JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) -- A 990-pound (450-kilogram), bedridden man who had appealed on Mexican television for help tackling his weight problem died Tuesday of heart failure, his family said.
Jose Luis Garza, 47, tipped the scales at almost 1,000 pounds before his death.
Emergency officials had to knock down Jose Luis Garza's bedroom wall and load him onto the back of a friend's pickup as he fought for his life. The 47-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in northern Mexico.

“Feeders,” as they are called, are into controlling their eaters. What better way to keep a person completely dependant and under control.
It’s not JUST that someone was feeding him, it’s the sheer amount.
It takes a lot of calories just to support 400+ pounds. We’re talking about DOUBLING that, and THEN adding another 200 pound person?
That would require turning eating into essentially a full time job. There is just no way to support that kind of weight, AND add to it, without spending a large portion of the day gorging yourself on inhumanly huge quantities of food...and then getting up the next day and doing it again, and repeating the process every single day for years.
I don't even want to think about . . . I mean, I know what happens to me if I eat too much salad. I can't imagine what happens to someone who consumes ungodly amounts of fat and calories per day.
Yuck. Who could do that?
Interestingly, we're number two in highest amount of Mexicans.

Feeding him is the easy part ... what about cleaning him?
Actually, there is. It starts when you get out of shape, and a little over weight. Things just become harder to do, you tire more easily. Then as you gain more wieght, you tire even more, and expend more energy doing it, which of course makes you want to eat more.
As you gain even more wieght, your feet and knee's begin to get painfull, Back problems set in because of your weakening condition.
It gets harder to breathe as the fat around your liver pushes into the duaphram, reducing lung capacity as well as increasing pressure around the heart sack.
Soon you are hardly able to walk up a flight of stairs, or walk a block to the bus stop to go to work.
Next thing you know, you have your first heart attack and end up at home in bed on disability, gaining anbother 100 lbs a year.
It doesn't even take much food. Despite trying to cut down caloric intake, people in that condition continue to gain wieght, even if they are only eating 1200 calories a day, watching their carb intake.
What happens is they trigger tjeir liver into producing sugars to compensate for the lack of carbs they get through diet. This cause the liver to produce blood sugars from the bodys protein stores, not fat unfortunately. The liver when it's working this way, always produces way more than the body needs, which in turn causes the pancreas to work even harder producing insulin to bring those levels down. Too much insulin, causes you to put on even more fat.
It's a difficult situation to get out of. It may sound hard to believe, but dieting just doesn't work for those people (any people for that matter, but 10 times worse for them) What these people are, are basically type 2 diabetics, but don't know it, just like most overweight Americans don't know it. They think that as long as they don't take insulin, they can't be diabetic. WRONG!
The biggest mistake overwieght people make when trying to loose wieght, is cut all the carbs out of their diet. This is a huge mistake. This triggers low blood sugar conditions, which triggers the liver into producing blood sugars from body proteins. This is NOT what you want to have happen. It's what starts the "big belly" look, where the person carries a lot of their fat around the abdomin, and bellies start pouring over belts.
type 2 diabetes requires that you keep your blood sugur levels between 4.0 -7.0 before meals, between 5.0 10.0 2 hours after. This is done by restricting carb intake to about 60-75g per meals, and eating 3 meals a day. Skipping meals is a no no. At the same time, reducing fat intake. Proteins, carbs, and fats are the three main food groups. Protiens and carbs are what you want to eat, managing the carbs to about 65g a meal for the average male, 55-60 for a female.
Watching some of the shows on TV, the doctors found that many said they were taking in few calories but were actually taking in 7000 or more calories per day.
It must have been the “wafer thin” mint that got him.
They are pretty chunky down in Mexico too. I guess that's all there is to do down there, eat tacos and re fried beans all day.
Here in Texas a black family was B-B-Qing and set the grill too close to the house. Well they left the grill unattended and the house caught fire. They are blaming the fire dept. saying that the house burned down because the fire dept was too slow in getting there.
They set the house on fire and blame the fire dept for it.
LOL, true enough. Although I think obesity in the US is an equal opportunity affliction.
You are dead wrong. It doesn’t take a lot of calories to get that big. All it takes is a bad diet. You can cut calories down to 1000 a day and still gain a lot of weight. I explained why above.
You can cut all the fat and carbs out of your diet, and still put on fat because your liver turns into a giant sugar factory, the excess insulin your pancreas starts producing turns into fat.
Insulin doesn’t turn into fat itself, it turns the excess sugar your liver is making into fat.
even if you cut out all protein intake, the liver will start turning your body muscles into sugar. So eating only rabbit food doesn’t help you loose weight either.
You MUST eat a balanced diet. Count carbs not calories. The trick is to keep your blood sugars within a targetr range to prevent your liver from producing sugar when blood levels fall below 4.0, around 3.5 is when the liver begins producing sugar from proteins.
You MUST eat at least 3 meals a day. Skipping meals makes your blood sugars fluctuate too much, causing the liver to produce sugars when they fall too low.
Fiancee? .....Amazing!!
I learned all this the hard way too.
I was starving myself, but kept gaining weight. I got up to 260, and was getting sicker. Finally a blood test told me I had become diabetic. I spent 3 weeks in a class listening to a dietician, and now I’m eating 3 meals a day instead of one small one, have my blood sugars under control and lost 40 lbs so far.
Prayers for Jose and family.
Look, if someone gets that fat, simply don’t feed them.
Since they can’t move, provide them with WATER ONLY. They WILL lose enough blubber to allow them to walk again long before they starve.
No, they will die.
And they won’t have any muscle left to walk before they die.
They won’t loose much fat at all.
