Report: Credit card fraud for Obama

Dead people. Fake people. Cartoon characters.

Now, it looks like Obama supporters are going after unsuspecting credit card fraud victims, too. Better check your Visa and Amex bills twice:

A North Kansas City couple has been left scratching their heads after they became the victims of a political scam.

Steve and Rachel Larman say a strange credit card charge appeared on their statement this month — a $2300 donation to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. The Larman’s say they don’t want this to be about their political affiliation, but they say they’re not about to give the Obama campaign any help from their pocketbook.

They said they notified Chase, their credit card bank, to report the fraud.

“(They) said that they had seen-they were familiar with this,” said Steve Larman. “It was fraud, they believe through telemarketing but they were going to be doing some more investigations.”

The Larman’s don’t want their politics to enter into what is essentially just a fraudulent charge. But they say that the charge involves the Obama campaign adds insult to injury for the registered Republicans.

“They (Chase) kept on asking me ‘are you sure you wouldnt have gone to a site in support of Obama’,” said Rachel Larman. “And I repeatedly said ‘Im voting for McCain - I would not be going to an Obama site’.”

Chase dropped the charge from the Larman’s card. The couple is thankful thay they caught the charge on the card, but worried that others may not see that type of fraud on their own credit cards before it’s too late.

RE: “0bama lies.
0bama cheats.

Does 0bama steal, too?

What else is 0bama lying about?”

I think we’re going about this all wrong — we should be asking, “What DOESN’T Obama lie about????????????????? I’m hard pressed to come up with anything truthful I can attribute to this guy.

If McCain/Palin eeks out a victory they have the same plans for them.

No doubt about it! The only sort of UNITY they'll accept comes from under the thug's boot.

“Think about this for a minute. The people at Chase want to support the Obama campaign but they are only allowed
to donate whatever the max contribution is. They charge a customers account $2300.00. When challenged, they remove
the charge from the customers account, but leave the money in Obamas pocket.
The customer may indeed be credited by Chase, but who is making sure that Chase isn’t just using this as a ploy to exceed their maximum allowable political contribution?”

Wow! I think you just exposed an incredible new way to cheat the system. Get your corporate boss to make ilegal donations! Incredible fraud!

During the primaries i received an email from obama camaign thanking for my contribution and a bumber sticker. I think it was a joke from someone but everyone I can think of that would do that and know my email it was sent to insist they didn’t do it.
Only thing I ever did was check his site to confirm a lie, which it did.

I read this article and checked all my credit cards. Zero balance due, for the most part. My Citi card showed that I received a new card, but that I had not called to activate it yet. My new line of credit is $2,300.00. What’s up with that?

Sorry to hear of your troubles... Did you happen to contact the FBI and report it? It would seem to me that in addition to regular fraud charges whoever is doing this may be guilty of a whole lot more. If it happened to this couple, and it happened to you 2 months ago - imagine all the people who this has happened to in between!

Did you report this to anyone - even the local GOP? Do you realize that your name could’ve been used to conceal one of those “overseas investments” into his campaign?

I just had an idea — I think EVERYONE here at FR should go check out the FEC site, and look up their name... It wouldn't surprise me at ALL at this point if many of us found mysterious donations...

On this thread alone there are two people saying that they had weird things happen to them with Obama contributions as well.

Here is the link to the FEC Search Page for Individual Contributors... I'd say it's worth a moment to check for your name (or family members as well...) just in case someone has contributed something to Obama in your name. If we can document that this is a widespread problem we may be able to get someone to do something...

The size of the donation is pretty brazen, and suggests someone who might have access to checking a card’s limit during a normal transaction, like a rental car agency, travel agency, hotel, etc.

$2300 is the FEC limit for a donation, the card's limit is of no consequence here.

Chase has always given me great service. Going to a website would not give Obama your CC number. Something like this is easy to get removed as long as you don’t wait too long.

FReeper Calpernia has this scam down pat----turned us all on to ID theft used in campaign donation scams. Candidates use ID theft to circumvent FEC laws---the candidate uses shady money, but files FEC reports listing donations from people who never contributed.

This could have been facilitated throuhgh ACORN which conducts mass canvassing. Registering people to vote may be only a small part of ACORN's game.
