RACINE Racine Unified officials say they will review the districts textbook adoption policy after a parent complained to a local blogger about an eighth-grade literature textbook that included an excerpt from a book written by Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
Officials also will review the districts policy and procedures for handling complaints concerning educational materials.
District officials havent received a formal complaint from the parent who complained to the local blog realdebatewisconsin.com said Stephanie Hayden, Unifieds spokes woman.
Superintendent Jim Shaw also directed administrators to review with teachers the 8th grade English Language arts curriculum and instructional practices to comply with the district policy that prohibits advocacy for a political candidate or party, according to an official district statement released Wednesday.
The textbook included an excerpt of Obamas 1995 book Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance. A unit titled Our Place in the World, also includes an excerpt from Obamas keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
The district adopted the textbook McDougal Littell Literature, Grade 8, in May 2007.

What next, Gwen Ifill’s book about the age of Obama?
I am sick and tired of the world of education leading our children to marxism.
We teach them to be respectful of their teachers but the NEA sees to it that our children are not respected.
Looks like there will be a lot more families home schooling their children come November.
When the Left takes control in November your “right” to home schooling will disappear. If you do it, they will hurt you through loss of job, taxes and fees to home school, permits, licenses, etc. You have no idea how much you'll lose under a socialist regime.
Home schooling BUMP!!
Every government school district should have a panel of parents serving as textbook reviewers, a panel not chosen by the school officials and with no influence from the teachers’ labor union (aka “Education Association,” a misnomer if ever there was one)..
