Car Dealers Suggest Obama Didn't Know What He Was Talking About

Spokesman suggests Obama better get his facts straight

A Wednesday night presidential debate claim by Barack Obama has stirred up car dealers in Oklahoma City who dispute his claim that car dealerships are closing everywhere and people cannot get car loans.

"I was surprised to hear it," admitted Peter Hodges, Executive Director of the Oklahoma City Metro Auto Dealers Association. "The facts of the matter are, about 500 dealerships out of 20,000 could close this year because of economic conditions."

But what angered Hodges was Obama's claim that car loans are not available. "That's completely untrue," professed Hodges. "And I did not expect to hear that out of a presidential candidate." Hodges said the Obama misstatement now makes an uphill battle even bigger. "This is a nationwide myth that people cannot get car loans."

Hodges said the myth is going throughout Oklahoma City, the state and the country. "We're not the only auto dealer association in the country having to get the truth out."

Obama is out of touch or deliberately trying to tank the economy.

Locally, car dealers are advertising the fact that they have “$$$ available for loans, despite what the media is saying”.

Banks are saying the same thing....most don’t even want the “bailout” that President Bush is forcing on them.

Has anyone tried to get a car loan recently? I've heard that it is more difficult to get a loan because you need a better credit report and some money down, unlike the old days of the ads stating "do you have a pulse? or have you recently had a pulse? If so, you get a 0% APR car loan".

I remember prior to the 2000 election when ‘they’ (the Dims and the media) accused Bush of trying to bring on a recession by ‘talking about it’...

I heard a major car dealer here in the Chicago area on the radio this past weekend say that they have plenty of banks offering them their loans.

...interesting I don’t hear the media cautioning the same now. I think ‘the sky is falling’ crap they’re spouting is to create the panic to allow a big govt take over...just a thought

We just got a car loan last night, no problems here.

Simple, if you have good credit, they are ready to lend.

Not surprising considering the financial condition that GM is in. But keep in mind, you can buy a GM car without using GMAC. There are lots of other lenders out there.
