Zogby: McCain Is Gaining, Race Tightens
NewsMax ^ | October 19, 2008

Republican John McCain continued a slow advance on Democrat Barack Obama in the race for president, moving back within three percentage points as the race begins to head down the stretch run, the latest Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby daily tracking poll shows.

McCain now trails Obama by 2.7 points, down from the 3.9 point deficit he faced 24 hours earlier.

Seven-point-one percent of the likely voters surveyed said they remain undecided.

Obama lost five-tenths of a point from yesterday's report, while McCain gained another six-tenths of a point. It was the third consecutive day in which Obama's numbers slipped and McCain's numbers increased.

McCain has once again moved above 45% support overall, a mark he has not seen since the second day of daily tracking reports. Obama's slip under 48% support is the first time at that level in nearly a week. He now stands within one-tenth of a percent of where he stood when the Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby daily tracking began almost two weeks ago. McCain is within two-tenths of a percent of where he was when the tracking poll began.

During the 13 days of the tracking poll, Obama has led by as much as 6.2 points and as little as 1.9 points.

Except for a few hours of polling, this three-day rolling average of telephone polling now includes a sample taken entirely after the final presidential debate last Wednesday.

The tracking poll includes 1,211 likely voters across the country who were surveyed between Oct. 16-18, 2008, at the rate of about 400 per day. The survey, conducted using live telephone interviewers calling from Zogby's call center in Upstate New York, carries a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points.

I remember Mitt’s run this spring, and he was out spending everyone by huge margins, and his polls would not budge, in fact, they typically declined as time went on.

I’ve heard it said “That dog food just won’t sell” no matter how much you spend on ads, if people don’t want to buy it, they won’t buy it.

McCain has the politcal lives of a cat, everytime I think he is done, he pops back up to the surface.

A digression, but George Gallup made his bones in 1948 by taking on all bets from his fellow pollsters that Truman would defeat Dewey, they all bet him and lost.

What happened was Gallup was the only pollster who watched what the independents/undecideds did, in the final 4 days, they swung to Truman.

I’m not saying the situation is similar, as that can be over used, but I do notice that undecideds/independents are HIGHLY volatile this election.

I just can’t imagine how much fun it will be, on election eve, if the results start coming in and it quickly becomes clear that McCain is going to win.

How will the CNN and MSDNC anchors and pundits spin it? What will David Gergen and Campbell Brown explain it? Oh wait, I know. “This is still a racist country”.

Notice how the storyline is now “Resistance to voting for a Black guy”?

Biden said it, the NYT said it, Murtha said it.

And it started with John Murtha’s statement and has continued since then, even then Murtha’s “apology” really wasn’t an apology for calling his own voters racists if they don’t vote Obama.

The polls always tighten up about this time. They've been skewed so far....now that the election is close the pollsters must start reporting the real deal....to CYA. Zogby is a donkey.....

Zogby really blew it in 2004...especially with the exit polls...if I remember correctly.

“Maybe they do not want us to vote if we think the race is over!”

It could work the other way. A lot the dope smokers and welfare recipients who would normally vote for 0bama will stay home, figuring that 0bama has it won.

Under the recommendation of my parish priest I have been fasting since last Saturday.

He said perhaps we will be spared the nightmare that he fears American is going to experience come Nov.

As they used to say in Chicago, “vote early and vote often”.

“This is still a racist country”.

Yes, it is because blacks are voting for blacks, period as proved by Colin Powell today.

"Looks like Zogby is an outlier. Rasmussen, Gallup, and others are heading back in the other direction. Sigh ...

What are you reading? Only Rasmussen has Obama gaining today, and that by 1 point (vs. 2.3 gain for McCain in Zog).

What I don’t understand is that how rational Democrats (there must be some-not all can be delusional) can countenance the thuggery of the Obama campaign towards Joe the plumber, Obama’s radical associations with Ayers and others, and the approval of vote fraud by ACORN to jeopardize a fair vote. Can all Democrats be Marxists or Fascists? Why are none speaking out to defend the freedom of America or denouncing voter fraud and the Gestapo tactics employed by Obama and his cohorts in the MSM? Gutless or brainwashed?

I believe there are many people in this country who view Europe and socialism as being better than capitalism. It pains me how often I hear people say “well, the govt owes me” or some such line. And the DEMs have built a voting constituency on these people.

Wanna bet? I think all the rational ones became Republicans during the Clinton years.
