That would be generally correct, however, in 1961 Obama's mother was not yet 18 and his father was not a citizen. Under those circumstances citizen would not inure to him automatically.

I had a weird thought too. Maybe there is a grandma tape and O really isn’t a US citizen. If that’s true, I don’t think he’d be able to step foot back in this country.

What faster way to get out of the country than to already be off the mainland?

Would also explain why it took him three days to plan. If he has to leave the country, he’d have to plan for a new pilot and copilot and figure out how to duck the secret service if he wants to leave Hawaii without them.
