WASHINGTON — The younger brother of Republican presidential candidate John McCain has withdrawn from campaign activities and apologized for swearing at an emergency dispatcher after he called 911 to inquire about a traffic jam on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.
Joe McCain, 66, said he was stepping aside to avoid becoming a liability for the Arizona senator before the Nov. 4 election. In an interview Saturday, he described the 911 call as "the biggest mistake I will ever make in my life, at least in politics," and said he thought he had hung up the phone before uttering an expletive.
The apology marked the second this month for him. He also apologized after referring to suburban Alexandria and Arlington County, Va., as "communist country" at a rally in suburban Loudoun County.
Asked about the expletive recorded in the 911 incident, he said: "I swear to you, I never, ever meant to say those words to a live voice. ... The truth is, I had no idea there was anybody on the other end of the phone."

I don’t get why he did call 911 to ask about the problem. Surely there must be some radio station in DC or someplace else to ask.

Clogging the 911 line because he was put out to be in a traffic jam was a very poor thing to do. Cursing or no, the guy screwed up royally. That being said, it wasn’t John’s poor judgment. It was his brother’s.
They all never seemed to mind too much when the salty mouthed Harry TRUMAN used to cuss people out. Whats that? Oh, I forgot, he WAS a Democrat. Free pass, right?

I worked in NVA and it is as described in some areas. I’ve never worked some place where people were openly surprised that “George Bush hasn’t been assasinated” while making clear they would be happy with such a result. Also in a meeting talking about how “Utah and Texas should be nuked”. These people worked for the Department of Homeland security. I got fed up and reported the indicidents anonymously and an investigator came in to interview them. Also there were many working on expired visas. I reported that also. Don’t get me wrong, most were excellent to work with but it was definently a different world. Ironically it was the immigrants I worked with that were more conservative. The white liberals though clearly dominated the place.
At least he didn’t insist that savng the life of an innocent baby was against the mother’s wishes to kill the baby.

I don’t know how many times I have said something similar to a &*#$%#@ recording but I would NEVER call 911 for traffic info.

The most signifigant connection to McCain he has is that he is his brother. I doubt that he is resigning from that position.
