RedState: Romney Surrogates Sabotaging Sarah Palin?
RedState ^ | October 28, 2008 | Erick Erickson

When I was in St. Paul for the Republican Convention, more than a dozen people told me acolytes of Mitt Romney were feeding all the stories to the media portraying Palin in a negative light.

In fact, I heard that one of the biggest pushers of anti-Palin stories, including encouraging reporters to pursue the "Trooper-gate" story was Romney spokesman Kevin Madden.

I did not blog on it at the time because I perceived it to be people trying to finish off Romney. It likewise seemed clear to me that if this was going on, it was people loyal to Romney who were still hoping for his come back and not Romney himself.

These days it is hard to miss Kathleen Parker's savage attacks on Sarah Palin. She, along with several others listed here attacking Sarah Palin were also some of the first pundits in bed with the Romney campaign in 2007/8.

Again, it is hard for me to place the finger on Romney. It seems to me that these are people who are still convinced he's the better nominee and don't want Palin to be in any position to challenge him in 2012.

Don’t know enough to say otherwise to your points. It’s true a candidate is the CEO and has to be accountable for what his people do.

If his folks are disparaging Sarah that’s bad end of story.

Thank you for your input. I have no doubt Romney is hedging his bets, playing the political game, so to speak. He doesn’t want to say too much for Palin, nor too much against her. First and foremost, Romney IS a politician. One of the reasons I was very wary of him in the first place.

why would his former aides do this? I think it’s like a cult that even Mitt can’t control.

The Mittster will never be an acceptable candidate....this is just more pissiness from that crowd.

McCain got my vote yesterday ... I'll stay home before I'll ever vote for Twitt.

I’ve seen Romney on some of the shows and had a decidely different take. Ridge, too.

I think that the left is trying to get people upset with each other. I would be very careful before starting something. Romney intimated that he would like to run with her. I think people are trying to make sure he doesn’t get a cabinet position.

Yeah, I’m just riffing a bit off of how he’s been the candidate so lauded for his CEO experience, but now his defenders are claiming that he can’t be held accountable for what his team does.

I agree about it’s being bad, as they’re clearly trying or willing to take the ticket down as well. I’m optimistic that VP Palin will only solidify her position over the next four years, however.

What politician wouldn't? Sarah Palin is doing the same thing right now (and rightfully so) yet no one here wants to condemn her for it.

The double standard is getting ridiculous.

I wasn’t aware that the Giuliani crowd had anything against Mitt, I think that they like Romney.

That is a Romney lie right there. Palin is almost single handedly trying to win this election for McCain.

The Palin we know is hardly cut of the same cloth as most politicians. She tends to speak her mind no matter what the cost. May I ask what it is that you think Palin has done that requires us to condemn her?

Bingo!

There’s definitely a move to create infighting.

Last night’s Lehrer Newshour spoke a lot about internal “discord”-—and NOTHING about Barry’s wealth re-distribution tape.

Hmm.
While this may or may not be a complete fabrication, I do have to say that it certainly matches the m.o. of his campaign here in Michigan as I experienced it.

I never signed up at his website, but I received more emails from his supporters/campaign than any other and it all consisted of nothing but despicable attacks on the other candidates.

Thanks for the ping. I’m not following this closely, as I consider it to be sour grapes from Team R.

There are too many important things going on, for me to occupy my time helping to sooth a battered ego
