McCain's Pollster Foresees Race 'Too Close to Call'
Top GOP pollster predicts extraordinary Election Day turnout, says the race between McCain and Obama has tightened "significantly over the past week"
FOXNews.com
Tuesday, October 28, 2008

John McCain's campaign has seen "significant" progress in internal polling in the last week, Republican pollster Bill McInturff said Tuesday, with notable strides among rural voters and soft Democrats.

The campaign has seen the race between McCain and Barack Obama tighten "significantly over the past week," McInturff said in a memo late Tuesday. "All signs say we are headed to an election that may easily be too close to call by next Tuesday."

Public polling data, however, both nationally and in battleground states tell a slightly different story. Obama has a several-point lead nationally and has broken the 50% barrier in many battleground states.

But each campaign conducts extensive polling of its own and, according to McInturff, the McCain campaign has reason to be hopeful.

"The strongest sub-groups for McCain are non-college men and rural voters of both genders," McInturff said. The campaign has also seen more reason to hope that they will get more than a "20% chunk" of soft Democrats.

"Wal-mart women," which the campaign describes non-college-educated women in households making less than $60,000 a year, are "swinging back solidly," McInturff said.

McInturff predicted extraordinarily high voter turnout -- as much as 130 million voters -- based on the level of excitement and interest in this election.

In Joe the Plumber, the campaign seems to have found a storyline that sticks. Nearly six out of 10 voters in battleground states said they had heard "a lot" about that storyline, with more than eight in 10 saying they had heard "a lot" or "some."

It’s hard to imagine a pollster from either party ever stating the candidate from the pollster’s party is going to lose.

I AM a “Wal-mart woman” if that means I shop there. I do, however, have a college degree (Home Economics), go to church, have no kids, love the computer, age 49+, and take classes to update my office skills. Voted for Fred Thompson in the primary.

Stereotyping and class categorizing is so MSM. ;)

I like to keep track of polls like this.

For instance, I’m volunteering to make calls for McCain/Palin, and a woman (and her husband) who enthusiastically voted already for McCain/Palin was discouraged that Obama was ahead. And John McCain is a war hero, she said!

I was able to tell her that the polls are tightening. I also told her that since she lives in a battleground state, do what she can, including talking with everyone she knows and calling a talk show.

It sends a tingle up my leg to think that after all the cheating, the vote fraud, all the underhanded crap they have pulled, and all that illegal foreign money sent to them by credit card fraud and Mac and Sarah win!

True. But, I sensed in his words, perhaps his excitement, that he was actually restraining himself and suggesting a tight race when he may see a sizeable McCain win. They want to say that it is a cliffhanger in order to get people to the polls!

Don't kid yourself. They shop there, believe me. Just not the elite, out of touch ones.

But being the liars they are they would not admit it.

Love the snarky little bit of editorializing and Obama cheerleader the writer of this piece has to inject in there. Sounds str8 from David Axelrod's mouth. I mean just report the damn news, journalist including ones at Fox think they are so self important

20% of the Dem vote for McCuda? Then this turns into a McCuda semi-landslide win.
