Boy Zapped Trying To Swap Political Yard Signs
WILM ^ | October 31, 2008

As the boy attempts to make the switch, he's zapped by electricity and runs away. A boy from North Carolina was caught on tape trying to swap signs from John McCain to Barack Obama.

The video posted on YouTube.com shows a 9-year-old boy creeping up to a McCain/Palin yard sign outside of a home with an Obama sign.

As the boy attempts to make the switch, he's zapped by electricity and runs away.

Shawn Turschak of Chapel Hill, says he was tired of people swapping out his sign, so the home owner with a degree in electrical engineering hooked up the sign to an electric pet fence.

The boy's father, upset about the shock later showed up at Turschak's door, along with a sheriff's deputy.

No charges have been filed.

The boy’s Father came over to complain to the homeowner. The Father didn’t say that his boy was going to be punished for attempted theft and suppressing other people’s free speech. Nooooo, he’s complaining about the electrified sign. Tough toenails.

If it’s good enough for the pets it’s good enough for a brat of a kid who was STEALING!

It’s just like my mom always said...if you don’t teach your kids right and wrong, the world will.

I don’t think the father realized the little attempted sign switch had been videotaped.

I live here (Chapel Hill) and boy is it a liberal town, BTW. Y’all do know that the dad is a professor at the University of North Carolina, don’t you?

Is Mr.Turschak a FReeper?! Hehehe! If I were him, I’d countersue for attempted vandalism (if there is such a charge).

The kid probably thought it was funny. Hope he learned his lesson but with a dad like that I think not.

Didn’t this jackass father say his kid was going to put up his own sign at home and the kid came over to see how they were put together? Sure, buddy.

Yes. ZOT!!! It means a big old lightning strike. Like what happened at an Obama rally when at the moment he started romping and stomping on President Bush, a big old lightning strike hit close by. Only the kid just got a tiny zot and his pappy ought to zot his britches with a switch to boot for trespassing and stealing.

Perhaps he should work up the statistics on how adversely this will affect his son's life.
And with his knowledge of "Data Mining" he should be getting plenty of returns on his queries.

> The guy needs to turn up the voltage,..

Nope, no need to chance a lawsuit if somebody gets seriously injured. As one who has designed, built, and deployed electric fences for domestic livestock, I can tell you that the effect of a shock generator varies widely based on relative humidity, what the person is wearing, how wet the ground is, etc. In other words, the strength of the delivered shock is rather unpredictable.

So the intelligent thing to do is, as this fellow did, set it only high enough to protect the sign, without trying to really blast the perp into next week.

That said, I agree that I would have enjoyed more of a pained reaction from the thief.

>>>Nope, no need to chance a lawsuit if somebody gets seriously injured.

I think he’s already done that, and the way our court system has been operating lately, the homeowner would have lost his ass given the right plaintiff.

In jest I suggested he turn up the voltage, because if your gonna get sued for something, you might as well have a little fun with it. :) Of course I wasn’t being serious.
I think this was funny as hell.
