WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's grandmother died of cancer, he said in a statement on Monday, a little more than a week after Obama interrupted the White House race to say goodbye to her in Hawaii.

"It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer," Obama said in a joint statement with his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng. "She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility."

Dunham helped raise Obama from the age of 10 while his mother was working in Indonesia, and Obama took an emotional 22-hour trip to Hawaii to visit her on October 23 and 24.

I feel that I am in a Twilight Zone episode and it just won’t end! We still don’t know who owned the home at 6085 Kalanianaole Hwy in 1961 and the more we look the more things simply don’t fit! Everything raises more questions and the way Jr has treated his family is only a part of it. Once again he was too busy to be at his grandmother’s bed side when she drew her last breath.

I think we can toss that out as bogus, Chief. Stanley Ann's parents lived in a modest home or condo apartment somewhere in Makiki and Stanley Ann and her boyfriend couldn't afford a house rental out in the Aina Haina or Hawaii Kai area, not as students at the UH.

As to the regard he holds for 'Tutu' or "Toot', I think it fits; she was just a prop in his grand scheme of things. She was his benefactor once and an anchor around his neck later.

I feel sorry for Mrs. Dunham. She was well respected and beloved by her employees at Bank of Hawaii. She was deserving of better than this and beyond today we'll never know her thoughts about her grandson and the circumstances that brought him to Nov. 4th, 2008.

Twilight Zone is a good analogy.

In your neighbor’s case, that was awful. In my Mom’s case she made it clear she was ready and wanted to go. That makes a huge difference in the morality for all concerned.

We can only guess at Obama’s grandmother’s state of mind at the time since she had been kept from the public for some time...

She surely knew where he was born.

Dead Grandmas tell no tales.
