Imagine, just imagine, the look on the faces at MSNBC if this comes to pass.

If it’s a tie, what happens?

The House chooses the President and the Senate chooses the Vice President.

That also happens if no candidate gets a majority of the electoral votes. More here and here.

But we won't know until December when the Electoral College votes, since an elector might not vote for the candidate he or she is pledged to.

Or -- nightmare scenario -- a candidate wins by one electoral vote and that elector doesn't follow through, so the race goes to Congress in December anyway.

If the House can't decide and the Senate can, the new Vice President becomes Acting President. If neither the House nor Senate can decide, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, becomes Acting President.

I could not sit back and do nothing, so I spent part of the week-end calling voters in several states and urging them to vote for John McCain. If you want, you can do the same thing by going to the following link:

http://www.johnmccain.com/PhoneBank/OutsideWindow.aspx

They have the name, telephone number, and city and state of the voters, plus a script you can follow, but I most often just tell them to remember to vote and vote for McCain-Palin. You can pick any state to call and I picked Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvannia, but you can pick others as well. Some people just hang up, but quite a few are willing to listen, including some undecideds. I'll do some more calling tonight.

The Dems have never gotten over Bush winning the majority of Electoral Votes while failing to garner a plurality of the popular vote (maybe; lots of military votes were never counted) in 2000. But in 2004, when Bush led the popular vote by more than 3,000,000 (about 62 million to 59 million), a switch of only 60,000 votes in Ohio (which Bush carried approximately 2,860,000 to 2,741,000) would have given the Presidency to Kerry. This is almost never discussed! Think the Dems would have turned it down?

McCain could indeed lose the popular vote by 2 or 3% and win an Electoral majority. California, New York, and Illinois will go to Obama by 20% or so; McCain might well lead in the other 47 states. He needs to "thread the needle," but stranger things have happened.

Stop freightening me! No seriously... thanks for giving the info. I was vaguely familiar with the concept, but didn’t knew the exact detail of the possible scenarios. Damn Pelosi scares the sh*t out of me!

McCain takes 59% of the popular vote. Any takers?

Doesn’t the election get kicked to the House if such a scenario comes up?

Yes. See my post #43. I think I got it right.

Estimates of the probability of a tie run from about 1% to 4%.

For BHO to win the popular vote and lose the electoral college essentially requires huge pluralities in NY and CAL (just like Gore).

I don’t see that happening. Although I am convinced that he will win NY and CAL, the margin will be somewhat lower than recent Democratic POTUS candidates.

It’s hard to imagine 50% of Americans voting for an affirmative action candidate named Hussein. Maybe I will be forced to heed PT Barnum’s words which (paraphrased) were, “Never underestimate the gullibility of the American public”.

Just MHO, if parents had the right attitude, sagging pants would disappear almost overnight.

Remember, Freepers:
Gov Bill Richardson’s state of New Mexico ordered 2.5 million ballots.
There are only 1.1 million voters in that state.

Why would he approve of spending over twice the money to print ballots?

Watch the results from New Mexico very carefully tomorrow night, please.

By 2012 he’ll have ACORN so organized that “voting” will be as outdated as candle making.””
If Nobama kills the coal industry and cripples the electricity in this country, candle making will have a resurgeance.

Hopefully he will lose everything and be the subject of MANY investigations-especially the sealed birth certificate.””

On a thread this weekend- it was noted that 24 electoral voters are supposed to be filing a lawsuit today about Nobama’s birth certificate.

Philip Berg was on Coast to Coast last night for 1 1/2 hours. He sounded very reasonable to me.

Investigations in Illinois into more of Reszko’s activities are pulling in more and more indictments.
When Wed AM rolls around and McCain is the new Pres-elect, I hope the prosecuters in Illinois go after Nobama.

BTW- I thought Reszko was supposed to be sentenced last Tuesday- one week before the election-—did anyone see/hear if that happened?
Please private message me.

I hope you told them about Nobama wanting to bankrupt the coal industry.

I only hope that if McCain wins, he pursues investigations into all potentially illegal matters where O and the dems are concerned. I pray that he doesn’t have a “new tone” which basically means that republicans go to jail and dems get away with criminal behavoir.
