I finally put my finger on something that's been bugging me all day long -- a day when the mainstream media has been trying its darndest to get the sheeple all worked up over Barack Obama choosing retread Democrat party blowhard Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff, and endeavoring to interest the crowd in unnamed John McCain staffers dishing the dirt over Sarah Palin.
Two days after a "monumental" Presidential election -- this is the news?
And that's when it hit me: the "news" is all done. At least any news that will energize Americans to lavish the sort of attention on an election aftermath that they usually have in the past.
"But," I can hear you emoting, "we've just by God elected the first African American President of the United States!"
Well, yes we have. And that's the thing. America went and made history. Again. We tend to do that a lot.
But it was getting the African American elected that was the point. Like a long and fitfully engrossing TV mini-series, we all endured a ridiculously tedious months-long drama, with oftimes ludicrous twists and turns, and when it was all over, the unprecedented election of a person of color was the outcome.
After which we spent the remainder of our election night -- which was much shorter and more boring than anyone could have possibly anticipated -- saying things like, "Well, er, congratulations, America," and "I'm going to bed."
American attention spans are notoriously short, so here it is -- two days after what the media told us was a mind-bogglingly historic election -- and the big monolithic "national moment" seems to have about as much staying power around the water cooler as the last episode of "The Sopranos" -- gabbed about for a couple of days, and then slipped into the back of the mind while more prosaic concerns -- like staying afloat in the leaking economic lifeboat -- return to their positions of prominence.
In some respects -- maybe most respects -- Barack Obama has already gone and jumped the shark. Sweeps Week is over, to use another TV analogy. The whole 2008 election was pretty much like the classic "Who Shot J.R.?" arc on "Dallas." For months, everybody excitedly guessed at the outcome and the nefarious assailant, and when we found out it was just the fetching Mary Frances Crosby, we shrugged our collective shoulders and moved on.
Which is why we have Palin bashers and -- good God! -- Rahm Emanuel on the front page 48 hours after the event to end all events. The climax really was an anti-climax. Sure, we have the first (in reality -- TV and the movies have done it many times before) African-American President. "That's cool," we say, watching as the shark disappears over the horizon.
The pundits have made a huge drama-queen deal over this somehow being a "triumph over racism," but it's really only the '60s-worshipping pundits and provocateurs who thought this was a racist nation in the first place, anyway. Most Americans long ago knew it was not.
Beyond us, then, lies the normal, turgid government work, just like always. The incoming President may not look like "the guys on the dollar bills," and that's interesting enough, I suppose. But, as always, we're all way more interested in the dollar bills than we are in the President.
Do us all a favor. Keep the change.

Their answer would be that we weren't ready in 1996, we were still too stuck in our racist ways back in '96.

OK, one for Sean Hannity on FOX: They should invite Alan Keyes, Jesse Jackson,and Sharpton on for a round table discussion on what it was like running for president. Michael Steele can participate.
Keyes is a maverick in his own way but he has some good things to say about the Constitution, the Declaration, and fundamental human rights.
And I am just STUNNED by how many people don't realize this. They are so caught up in the froth and smoke that is kicked up by our 24/7 talking-head shallow-as-a-puddle news media, they don't see the important things going on. They just don't see the bigger picture. And I think that's the plan. Like a magician distracting you with the pretty girl, you don't see what's really happening.
They don't see the House controlled by a radical left wing nut-job-Nancy. Combined with a veto proof majority in the Senate, lead by Dingy-Harry-Reed. Combined with a radical, smooth-talking uber-left wing man-child. A man who is following the Saul Alinski handbook step by step.
And statements that make my jaw drop, things that are just unprecedented in the history of our country. Nationalizing the oil companies. Nationalizing retirement accounts. The government being the largest mortgage holder in the country. The left wing federal judges that will be appointed. The brown shirt intimidation tactics. The forced unionization of companies through non-secret 'ballots'. The silencing of opposition voices by using the "Fairness Doctrine" as an economic weapon of intimidation. The death of fair elections through massive government supported ACORN fraud.
And then I hear people tell me that I'm just afraid to have a black President?? Like I really give a rats a$$ about that kind of trivia? Or I'm afraid to be taken in a 'new direction'. Like there's something new about what this man is doing and where he is headed? Like we haven't seen him and his direction over and over again in the last hundred years. This man is trying to sell me a perpetual motion machine, and I don't believe him because he's black?!?!?
And I talk to most people and it's like they're speaking in broken English. I'm going to make myself stop now, I could rant forever. But somebody, please, tell me, is it the world that going insane, or is it me?

The news last week that O is intentionally set on bankrupting the electricity and coal industries unless they fall in line with his irrational energy plans to curtail CO2 output; rationing food and fuel; restricting travel and assembly rights; free abortion through the fourth trimester; repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act; outlawing gun ownership; 25% reduction in the defense budget; killing of all advanced weapons development; massive tax hikes in the face of a deteriorating economy; forced indoctrination of youth through compulsive but “voluntary” service; the use of the Justice Dept. to stifle political speech; the reinstatement of the Orwellian “Fairness Doctrine” to kill opposition speech; the use of state prosecutors and sheriffs to intimidate citizens exercising fair political speech and make the State the official arbiter of what is permissible speech. I fully expect reparations in the next four years, initially to anybody who can remotely claim they are descended from slave stock, but soon thereafter to American Indians, Japanese interned in WW II and eventually to Islamic terrorists released from GITMO.
My God, the list is unbelievably bad. This is why so many are wont to say “USA RIP.”
I didn't give one thought to Keyes' race or skin color. He was conservative,dedicated, pro-life, and articulate. I didn't think Dole would win. He didn't.
I know he's persona non grata with the GOP now, annoying party insiders, and had flaws as a candidate. But white Republicans voted for him. He gets a footnote in the history books. I just think they should have him on more on FOXNEWS to liven up the debates and offer an African-American conservative voice on traditional values, fundamental God-given human rights, and an alternative to Obama. Surely some deal could be worked out.
He'll never win the presidency but he could be a good commentator. Let him explain his perspective on the flaws of Obama and the McCain campaign's version of GOP conservatism. Why not...

My goodness! When will people wake up to the fact Obama isn’t black? The soap opera starts now. There will be the Made for TV movie to watch. MLK Day will be hard to endure with Obama. People will soon get sick of his long winded speechs that say nothing. The deconstruction will start in a year. The media will be the first to be rejected by him once they ask hard questions. Then will come the big incident—Something in the Middle East I fear. That will set things all wrong.
I can hardly wait until we are oppressed, then we will be the minority. We will get all the special privileges, extra chances at education and jobs. Hell, we will even be able to stay home with the kids, train them to be outstanding athletes and get to go to all the professional sports that we cannot afford right now because of their people getting paid millions when they cannot even talk regular or hold a regular job. We may even take back the government if it happens before socialism gets too ingrained in the society.
I’m actually pretty happy as long as he isn’t found to be illegitimate or a non-citizen and starts a civil war. It will be just what the ignorant followers deserve when the stock markets fail, and he is unable to do even a fraction of what he promised. It will be a practical course in bone-head economics and history which most of the voters who elected Obama must have slept through or failed due to being not “present”. I am happy with my circumstances, I can provide for my family, we are self sufficient and can survive without all of the whiners who have complained for the past 8 years that this country was not serving them well. WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE WHAT THE NEXT FEW YEARS PROVIDE YOU WITH!
