Obama wants forced labor for school children
Office of the President-Elect ^ | 11-05-08 | Office of the President-Elect

America Serves

"When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

But this shows it is an option, not a requirement for each district

I'll be parents don't know its and option, and if you get a marxist-schooled principal, or gay/lesbian principals, as many schools now have in California, odds are you'll get an agenda to coerce students into 'volunteering' for their pet agendas.

Let's we forget, social engineering is the antithesis of a free people, and government mandated volunteering is nothing but social engineering.

Schools are for academics and they are already not voluntary. Everything else they do hurts freedom.

Not only jobs creation for government, but government extension via corporations that ‘support’ these programs. Corporatist fascism is one result of government ‘partnership’ with corporations.

I think community service is a great idea, and should be encouraged, but not required. I see the point and the purpose, but again it should not be required. I serve the community in several different areas because I want to, and I enjoy it.

It is involuntary servitude and prohibited by the 13th Amendment.

I really think this should be up to the parents. While I like the idea of service, it should be voluntary in a free nation.

The schools should not be doing it. Their mission has fled so far from academics, that now they are trying to give credits to children for nonacademic work to help them graduate.

America truly has been dumbed down, to be so accepting of this bold grab for power over a child’s social and civic training.

Don’t parents want to parent their children at all any more? How can anyone think a school can do it all for them? I can’t see why people are so blase about this. It is a very insidious way to turn people toward communism, as posters who fled communist bloc countries will attest.

Ummm he wants it for middle school too.

I’d be thrilled if passing an exit exam was part of graduating. Otherwise, leave the volunteering to the family. I don’t need some idiots in DC telling me how to live my life.

Personally, I look forward to all the idiot college students who voted for this guy (perhaps more than once) getting the word that they’ll have to do 100 hours of community service.....just like criminal offenders.

Only 20 hours? yet, we've not been able to get ANYONE on WELFARE to do one hour of work in exchange for the HOURS of WORK we taxpayers exchange in order for the lazy. 20 hours seems like a great start, starting with anyone who gets ANY form of government aid. Then, when we've figured our all the logistics of getting the lazy to be able to operate a broom and dust-pan, we'll be able to get the "already paying- taxpayers" to come in.

the one thing missing from Obama's NAZI-like goals is the "taxpayer corps" who already pitch in more than they need to. The one class that is always left out of any discussion is the class of W2-holders. Arrgh.

I am expecting a commercial upgrade to the public school system of private, high tech schools, that will give such a superior education to children compared to public schools, that there will be no contest.

Such a system would use interactive multimedia to teach the lower levels of the educational pyramid, much faster, more thoroughly, and more comprehensively than human teachers could do. For their part, the human teachers provide higher pyramid levels of education than computers can provide.

(I like to interject at this point that the comparison is just between public and this type of private schooling. Religious and home schooling is so inherently different that comparison is not practical.)

Such high tech schools would have as their priority to not waste student time. So multimedia instruction would be multiple discipline. At the same time a student is learning US history, for example, he would also be learning the lesson in the German language, as well as English, he would be learning new material as well as reviewing older material, being evaluated on his lessons, and corrected when in error.

While reading about a period in US history, he could also hear the music of the period, as well as seeing the architecture, art, and clothing of the time. Even how he is taught history would be different, such as teaching from the present to the past, instead of how it is done traditionally.

The narrator and multimedia teacher would be a full scale production, and able to digress into a subject as far as the student wanted to go via an educational Intranet. Students would learn at their own pace, and would not miss any blocks of instruction, progressing only when they had mastered it.

Classes would no longer be taught to mediocrity, as the teacher would not have to slow down for the slow students, or ignore the needs of the fast students. And being private, there is no need to permit federal interference in the learning process.

The county I live in requires community service hours for high schoolers to graduate. I don’t know how many are required. I’ll check into it.

I want a living wage, overtime, healthplan, 2 15 minute breaks, 1 hour lunch and retirement and health benefits. The makeup of the corps must be represented by percentages of the general population and all religions must be accommodated for beliefs and traditions. I want all corps workers to be unionized and treated equally under labor laws of this country. All job sites must comply with ADA regulations. Public, ADA equiped transportation must be provided to and from work sites. All transportation must produce no CO2 and worksites must be CO2 free. After the corps work assignment has been completed workers will retire and receive 50% of pay plus health care for life. Anything less than the above indicates that this corps proposal is nothing more than exploitation of workers and their rights.

I thought his original plan was to offer a $4,000 college credit for 100 community service hours each year to assist with college. Now it says ‘required’. Something changed within the last couple of days.

That’s why it won’t happen! Obama’s ego loves too dearly the adoration of the “youth”...the thought of him losing it would just be too much to bear for him.

Always remember, the only thing more important to Obama than his leftism is his own ego.
