"Yes We Can . . . Ban Guns"--Obama Announces Gun Ban Agenda Before The Final Vote Count Is In
National Rifle Association ^ | November 07, 2008 | NRA-ILA

Posted on 11/09/2008 2:44:27 AM PST by Perseverando

Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign slogan, "the audacity of hope," should have instead been "the audacity of deceit." After months of telling the American people that he supports the Second Amendment, and only hours after being declared the president-elect, the Obama transition team website announced an agenda taken straight from the anti-gun lobby--four initiatives designed to ban guns and drive law-abiding firearm manufacturers and dealers out of business:

"Making the expired federal assault weapons ban permanent." Perhaps no other firearm issue has been more dishonestly portrayed by gun prohibitionists. Notwithstanding their predictions that the ban's expiration in 2004 would bring about the end of civilization, for the last four years the nation's murder rate has been lower than anytime since the mid-1960s. Studies for Congress, the Congressional Research Service, the National Institute of Justice, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found no evidence that gun prohibition or gun control reduces crime. Guns that were affected by the ban are used in only a tiny fraction of violent crime-about 35 times as many people are murdered without any sort of firearm (knives, bare hands, etc.), as with "assault weapons." Obama says that "assault weapons" are machine guns that "belong on foreign battlefields," but that is a lie; the guns are only semi-automatic, and they are not used by a military force anywhere on the planet.

"Repeal the Tiahrt Amendment." The amendment--endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police--prohibits the release of federal firearm tracing information to anyone other than a law enforcement agency conducting a bona fide criminal investigation. Anti-gun activists oppose the restriction, because it prevents them from obtaining tracing information and using it in frivolous lawsuits against law-abiding firearm manufacturers. Their lawsuits seek to obtain huge financial judgments . . .

Remember Obama says: "Yes we can!"

All things are possible with the Obamassiah . . . except the Second Amendment.

Freepers, be sure and sign up for the NRA Legislative Alerts by e-mail while you're at their site.

Please join the NRA if you can. We have to gear up now in the next two months for what looks like will be the greatest assault by an incoming administration on the Second Amendment since FDR and Clinton.

The telephone number is 1-877-NRA-2000.

Also, I would recommend joining other gunowners orgnizations, such as the Second Amendment Foundation (1-800-426-4302) and Gunowners of America (1-703-321-8585).

Your dues will help pay for what will be an expensive fight. I remember the early days of the Clinton administration well, and it is far more timeconsuming and expensive to fight the gungrabbers in the Congress with no hope of a veto.

The gungrabbers are celebrating the Kenyan Clown's victory, and now believe that gun control is a winning issue:

The Brady Campaign has issued an in-depth report called "Guns & The 2008 Elections: Common Sense Gun Laws Won, The NRA Lost, & What it Means."

The analysis highlights what happened in states with high gun ownership and states where the National Rifle Association spent millions on ads to attack the Obama-Biden ticket.

The report shows that support for gun laws can be a winning message for politicians and not a dangerous political "wedge" issue. It makes the case that voters want pragmatic solutions to protect their families and communities from gun violence and know that sensible gun laws won't hurt legitimate gun owners. (Source: http://www.bradycampaign.org/.)

This is going to be bad time for all of us, and if you want to preserve the Second Amendment, it's going to be an expensive one.

The way I see it, buying a boatload of ammo now means that you can sell it to your friends at a profit under the table later.

I’m tempted to go out and buy some of the guns that I know wil be banned soon, but unless there is a way to purchase them without leaving a permanent paper trail, Obama’s goons will just show up at my door one day asking me to hand over the AR-15 etc.

Good question. It may be because we were in a state considered safe for Mac, but I never saw a one, from either, during the election, except the national ones on the networks.

What makes you think they can get airtime now???

The MSM is notorious for refusing to run NRA ads.

No, but he can pass a new assault weapons ban, which unlike the last one, won’t include a sunset provision.

I’m sure he plans on only letting people who register all their guns, pay an annual fee to be allowed to own them, (Like Canada) qualify for a “license”, and keep them “safe” in a Government controlled facility, you know, where Children and those with “mental” problems cannot get hold of them. (Conservatism will ten be deemed as a “mental” condition.)

Obama’s “Security Force” will also be charged with watching web sites like this, to identify those with “mental” problems and promptly get warrants, etc, to search and confiscate their firearms.

They will also ban ammunition sales and manufacture, except for government use.

Be careful there......

You will be handled like a Drug Cartel kingpin. The ATF will storm your home with a swat team and cart you off to Federal Prison without a trial.

No, but he can pass a new assault weapons ban, which unlike the last one, won’t include a sunset provision.

Doing so will be difficult without the support of the Blue Dogs and those Democrats elected from Conservative-leaning districts in 06 and 08. The very same ones who caused the Congress to step in to set DC straight on it's attempts to circumvent the SCOTUS handgun ban ruling.

If the NRA and GOP (but more the NRA) put a LOT of pressure on those Dem Congressmen, they're gonna realize that their own Party and President are putting their seats in jeopardy and possibly selling them down the river. I don't see them sitting quietly by and letting that happen, especially if TV/radio adverts and lit drops are happening in their districts. They're going to completely freak out and either stand up to their Party/President (so much for a "honeymoon"), or we're going to see a repeat of 1993/94 and a lot of them are going to jump ship to the GOP.

The most important thing here is to publicize, publicize, publicize this issue. Did I mention that we need to PUBLICIZE it? If handled correctly, this could very well set the tone for the rest of the Obama Administration ... people will be presented with hard evidence that he's a Leftist trojan horse and he WILL lose support. Especially with the Conservative elements in his own Party.
