Gansu Locked Down After Riots

2008-11-21

Local officials and residents say a curfew has been imposed on Longnan city following two days of violence between police and protesters.

HONG KONG—Authorities in the northwestern Chinese province of Gansu have imposed a curfew on some districts of Longnan city following two days of violence between security forces and local residents resisting eviction.

"The whole area is under curfew," a local official who declined to be identified said. "Any groups of more than three people will be beaten without mercy."

He said government propaganda cars were moving through the city following rioting Tuesday, warning local residents not to leave their homes, to be careful what they say, and not to gather in groups of more than three, on pain of strict enforcement.

"They were beating everyone they saw out on the streets [Tuesday]," he said. "They were saying in my department today that the police are attacking people. It's horrible. Things have got really serious."

But still,in a domestic firefight with unskilled patriot soldiers, which is better and more effective,a semi-auto chambered for the 30.06 or the 308?

Probably doesn't matter - both are pretty close. Dirty little secret - my Garand is chambered in .308 rather than the original 30-06. Reason? Ammunition availability (and at the time, I thought that the slightly less powerful round would result in somewhat less recoil). I also have a .308 bolt-action Savage Arms 10. I think it's good to have some interchangeability.

I actually think that the AR-15 would be quite useful for close-in activity. It's a small, light gun with soft recoil and can be maneuvered easily. Something like a carbine in functionality.

BTW, enjoyed the Navy/Marine story. A good friend of mine was in the Marines in Vietnam - if I'm not mistaken, he carried an M-14. I think that the Marines were not so quick to transfer over to the new M-16.

And to think, Republican McCain supports cap-and-trade as well.

Forget filibustering it, even if we end up with 42.

That would be nice. In one of those photos I think the officer was kicking a protester in the nads. Maybe if one of the homos causing trouble got kicked there a couple of times they’d learn to keep it under control and locked up.

I hear the destruction of the Red Emperors.

As for cracking down, the Chinese are a population of up to a billion and I don’t blame leadership for getting panicky over instability.

Can’t remember which rifle I heard this about... probably the Garand since the M14 was not around during the Korean War (Conflict, Hell!!). I have heard of soldiers having to urinate on the action in freezing temps in order for the weapon to properly cycle. Don’t remember hearing about freezing temps in Vietnam. Any info appreciated.

Nat. Match M1A for reaching out there and HK for general abusive treatment, close in.

Assorted calibers is your 2nd Amendment safety-net. 7.62, 7.62x.39, 5.56, .45, 9mm, 12gauge, .22.

While Obama and the Dims worry about man made global warming and other mythical creations the real problems accelerate with their "solutions".

With Obama's 'sudden shift' in policies to Center, perhaps he'll even put global warming on a 4 year 'sabbatical'! He's already cut his promised '5 million new jobs' down to 2.5! Time will tell, but his 'NET new jobs' for a couple years at least will cement his legacy: ZERO.

Well, compared to the wood and steel macho looking M-14,the plastic and alloy Mattel 16 does look like a sissy gun.
Along with long distance accuracy and a round that won’t be deflected by a jungle leaf—AND a good club in hand to hand, the Marines were well justified in their druthers for the 14.
Weight,in both weapon and amunition, was the decider for the 16.And for a 22,the 16 round is pretty nasty upon impact with flesh.
But until recently,Marine snipers used the 1903 Springfield 30.06 to devastaing effect. Now they use expensive special made rifles like everyone else.
Price, availiability and efficacy of civilian arms may be key in a rebellion if Obama becomes a Marxist dictator. The 30.06 may be due for a comeback.

I hope not.

China’s fascist government may look to distract a restive populace with a foreign adventure.

God help us with Obama in the saddle and the big red machine deciding to take a run at Taiwan.

“Those protestors need guns.”

Nunchuks and a few karate lessons would be fine as well. Wouldn’t surprise me if you needed to get a special state security check to earn a black belt.

They can’t. They don’t have transportation capacity for a amphibious operation of that size, nor, most importantly, can they establish air superiority over the straights even without US Carriers enjoining the battle.

All that would do at this point is result in massive humiliation and defeat. They’re FAR more likely to go adventuring somewhere landwise. Siberia... even India perhaps.
