Behind The Bias: A Drive For 'Social Justice'
IBD Editorials ^ | November 25, 2008 | Dennis Prager

Posted on 11/25/2008 9:22:16 PM PST by Kaslin

That the news media were biased in the 2008 presidential election is now acknowledged by fair-minded people, left or right.

As Time Magazine's Mark Halperin said last weekend at a Politico/USC Conference on the 2008 election:

"It's the most disgusting failure of people in our business. . . . It was extreme bias, extreme pro-Obama coverage."

Given how obvious this bias is, the question is not whether liberals in the media tend to offer biased reporting. The question is why? Why can't liberal news people report the news without any slant?

Lack Of Objectivity

The answer is that for people on the left, all — I repeat, all — professions are a means to an end, not ends in themselves. That end is the social transformation of society, meaning the promoting of "social justice" as the left understands that term.

For most liberal news reporters, therefore, the purpose of news reporting is not to report news as objectively as possible. The purpose of the media in general and of reporting specifically is to promote social justice and the social transformation of society.

For most liberal judges, the primary purpose of being a judge is to promote social justice and transform society. That is why liberal judges are so much more likely to be judicial activists than conservative judges.

Most liberal judges do not see their roles as merely adjudicating a dispute according to the law. They see their role primarily as using the law and their power to rule on the law to promote social justice.

“Social Justice” is a euphemism for government control.

Dennis Prager is one of the keenest observers of social trends around. I always pay attention to him when he is on TV and try to read his columns. Good guy!

“The answer is that for people on the left, all — I repeat, all — professions are a means to an end..”

But, the end in question is not the one they had in mind. The end for them will be THE end as they are laid off, their enterprises downsize or go under and they get their little ends off to jobs where they can say “do you want to end up with fries with that?”

And who can they blame? Just look in the mirror, the left handed one.

Yes and no. Social justice is another term for what Frederic Bastiat calls “Legal Plunder.” It is simply a legitimized (legalized by the corrupt powers) form of theft. They just use Social Justice as an excuse to take from others.

In other words, they are simple theives who seized the enforcement powers of our government.

Today's “social justice” is just used as a tool by delusional ideologues, manipulative greedy politicians and crooks to gain more power over the people.

The Dem party, with all it's fractions, gay rights, feminism, minority rights, labor unions, the media and even a large part of the Republican party segments have been taken over by marxist ideology.

Wow - I was asked by a few folks from church why I was worried that the new hot phrase coming from the youth at my church is “social justice”.

This is well put and I’m forwarding it on.

Thanks for posting!

And if they got a conserve to write for them, well I hope he got paid, I also like D. Prager, mayhaps my initial assesment was hasty. I thought it was a last ditch effort, but I could be excused when reading certain other pubs, (I did say “I don’t know” in reg to this pub.) I don’t want Dennis P to hate me and stuff... I’ll diagree with him on my own terms, (the old “I didn’t say I wouldn’t go fishing with the man “ thing, applies)

Dennis is right. But he’s also missing the point. The left draws its strength from its vision of the world made pure by the ideological promise of equality and justice. When you know what you want and believe it to be the sole redeemer of mankind, you’ve got a powerful motivation to continue your mission.

Sadly, many of us who believe in liberty, individual freedom, and individual rights have lost our vision of the world, and the left is eager to fill the vaccuum with their ideals of equal outcome and the immortal Hegelian superstate.

Two strategies taken up by the left are infiltration of the instututions of culture (as promoted by the Frankfurt School, Gramscii, Adorno, and many others) and the creation of institutions parallel to existing centers of power - for instance, creating “community organizations” who do many of the same things that churches and volunteer groups do.

Conservatives need to take those strategies to heart. Make sure young conservative men and women take up careers in teaching, the media, theater, and film. Nurture those starting and wait patiently for them to grow and succeed, and cautiously and slowly over time, allow their ideas to take root. Remember what Alinsky reminds us about using the values of the enemy against themselves. The left claims that they represent tolerance, diversity, and intelligence, so at every turn remind them that their deeds and words are intolerant, divisive, and stupid. For instance, it would be a great idea for people of faith to start using the clauses in civil rights legislation about discrimination based on religion to start marching the secular left into court after court, in the same way the ACLU harasses believers without shame.

Second, establish parallel institutions in the same fashion as the left. Create schools, starting in preschool, specifically focused on conservative ideals. (There is the seed for this in many local Christian schools and some colleges, like Hillsdale and Pepperdine.) If the media stands against you, create new media. In fact, this is exactly what talk radio has done. If the only paper in town is a liberal rag, start a conservative rag. For every voice on the left, create and promote a voice on the right, in whatever field that voice emerges. Match the left point for point.

And be vigorous, and never, ever give in or stop. That’s another lesson from Alinsky. The job is not to win the argument. The job is to crush the opposition. The left seeks to do this whenever and however they can - look at what they have done and are doing to Sarah Palin. Where are the voices on the right ready to savage and destroy notables like Al Franken?

There used to be a feeling among the people I grew up with that free men could never be defeated. Liberty is just as good as rallying cry as “social justice.” Just try it.

This is vintage Mark Halperin.

He is no less than a lock-step, true-believing, fifth-column, fellow travelor; however, he knows how to feign journalistic "ethics" once his progressive comrades are safely along the shining path.

Nice try Halperin.

Your sniveling, gratuitous fakery gains you nothing among us conservatives who can smell a rodent.

Stepping back a bit, the Prager piece is quite good, n'est ce pas?
