“And yet this is exactly what you advocate.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No I did not!
I advocated confiscating weapons grade nuclear material OF BOTH COUNTRIES. Presumeably, india would be willing to cooperate once they are convinced that we mean it and proof is given that pakistanis were losing their nukes too. My idea(although I did not put this in my post) was that we could help persuade india by helping them in a war against pakistan AFTER we have all the nukes.(secretly of course)
I think india would gladly eliminate all nukes from the equation if they were going to go to war against pakistan. Pakistani nukes is the ONLY way pakistan stands a chance and doing any measureable harm to india.
SHEESH, you people have no immagination or creativity whatsoever.
Not quite. I said I do not believe the Pakistani government is involved.
Interesting. I’m curious to know why.
Chi-Com grenades: Standard Pak military issue.
HK MP-5 clones: Manufactured in Pak.
RDX military explosive: Pak military issue.
You don't pick this stuff up at the Mumbai Wal-Mart.
Then there are the Satellite phones being used to call numbers in Pak.
Yes me friend, the Pak ISI is in this up to their eyeballs.
"If I were george bush, I’d use this as an excuse to go in and confiscate all weapons grade nuclear fuel in BOTH countries...pakistan AND india. According to UN law, they are both in violation by merely possessing these things. That would send a VERY CLEAR message to iran, would it not? What’s wrong with my idea?"
Your idea does not take into account a high probability of an immediate 'use them or lose them' reaction by both countries. The only question then would be 'against whom?'
True, but both countries have been nuclear-armed for YEARS. Something should have been done long ago. I doubt that either country would take too kindly to their toys being taken away.
ISI is a key part of the Pakistani government with a major wing that has a well known history of and likely current support for radical Islam ... almost surely including the Mumbai killers.
What about from a competent arms dealer? BCCI used to deal in arms, you know. And they were a private organization...
You could be right — in which case that is one helluva bold move for Pakistan. It is tantamount to an Act of War: not just on India but on the US, Israel and UK as well.
What about china?
China has no dog in the india-pakistani fight. Besides. American troops are currently in afghanistan and india and sometimes illegally in pakistan. When the nukes are all gone, the indian-pak war is over, and we have mega military bases built throughout afghanistan, pakistan and india...just like we are doing in iraq...then we can have our own missiles in those three countries. India won’t need their own nukes.
If china tries to pull something...goodbye china.
I’m thinking big here, fellas. For the long term future. I’m not the hit and run type.
It’s all a dominoes-like effect. It seems it would be easy to convince india it’s their best interest to give up nukes. THen take pak nukes. THen once that’s done, iran will REALLY be sweating and should be a cake walk. China will effectively be neutralized. Soviet style expansion halted. We will be able to start pressuring china on tibet. Tibetans will be inspired to push back harder. india and thailand could form an alliance and start tackling the burma problem.
The only weak link in my plan as I see it is the worthless scum that is about to take over the US whitehouse.
Yes, I know.
And they were a private organization...
That's one way of looking at it I suppose. But they're no longer around.
It's pretty obvious that elements of the Pak government, most likely the thoroughly Talebanized ISI had a hand in this, more likely both hands.
I thought the terrorist funding was traced to the UK - maybe they should be considering other targets(?)
I’ve often wondered what happened to them: as a “bank” they are no longer around, but with all that infrastructure and contacts network, I gotta suspect they transformed into “something else”...
Some aspect of al Qaeda perhaps?
It doesn’t need to. It has a huge population and a shared border (the Himalayas) with India.
Why would India want to give up its nukes with China next door?
I've seen a lot of fear-mongering on this site and others about the direness of a full-scale nuclear war between India and Pakistan, and it is not at all like the hyperbole would lead you to believe.
One poster here said that 25% of the world's population would die if they went to nuclear war! Unbelievable. Nothing could be further from the truth.
If they both set off ALL of their nukes it wouldn't affect you at all unless you were visiting the immediate area. The left has everyone convinced that a few nukes would make the whole world uninhabitable and irradiated. That is nonsense.
Don't forget, some 1021 nukes were set off just outside of Las Vegas, at least 100 of which were above ground. People have lived there the entire time and they used to watch the mushroom clouds from Vegas hotels. The entire nuclear arsenals of BOTH India and Pakistan is between 75 & 150 small nukes.
The Nevada Test Site is a United States Department of Energy reservation located in Nye County, Nevada, about 65 miles (105 km) northwest of the City of Las Vegas, near 37°07′N 116°03′W / 37.117, -116.05.
During the 1950s, the mushroom clouds from these tests could be seen for almost 100 miles in either direction, including the city of Las Vegas, where the tests became tourist attractions. Americans headed for Las Vegas to witness the distant mushroom clouds that could be seen from the downtown hotels.
Another myth is that our cities would be uninhabitable for hundreds of years. I disagree.
Hiroshima, Japan today.
Nearly 3 million people live in Hiroshima Prefecture, and over 1 million in the city itself.
The entire Indian and Pakistani nuclear arsenals combined are less than what was set off just 65 miles outside of Vegas above ground.
India:
Though India has not made any official statements about the size of it nuclear arsenal, the NRDC estimates that India has a stockpile of approximately 30-35 nuclear warheads and claims that India is producing additional nuclear materials. Joseph Cirincione at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (3) estimates that India has produced enough weapons-grade plutonium for 50-90 nuclear weapons and a smaller but unknown quantity of weapons-grade uranium. Weapons-grade plutonium production takes place at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center, which is home to the Cirus reactor acquired from Canada, to the indigenous Dhruva reactor, and to a plutonium separation facility.
Pakistan:
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) estimates that Pakistan has built 24-48 HEU-based nuclear warheads, and Carnegie reports that they have produced 585-800 kg of HEU, enough for 30-55 weapons. Pakistan's nuclear warheads are based on an implosion design that uses a solid core of highly enriched uranium and requires an estimated 15-20 kg of material per warhead. According to Carnegie, Pakistan has also produced a small but unknown quantity of weapons grade plutonium, which is sufficient for an estimated 3-5 nuclear weapons.
I wasn’t aware of that. It makes sense, actually. If the Pakistani gummint is willing to pick up the BCCI, then I could now quite believe they are involved in this action in Mumbai.
They’re stupider than I thought, clearly.
