Al Gore does Oprah - was anybody watching?

29 11 2008

A guest post by: Russ Steele from NCWatch

Green truth

We can only hope the most people in the US are shopping on Black Friday and not watching the Oprah Winfrey Show today.  Al Gore has brought his global warming propaganda machine to share with Oprah.  You can find the details on Oprah’s web page.  Here are some of the topics that Gore is pushing:

Classic Gore:

“Some of the leading scientists are now saying we may have as little as 10 years before we cross a kind of point-of-no-return, beyond which it’s much more difficult to save the habitability of the planet in the future,” Gore says.

Yes, but Al you have been saying that for over ten years and we are still here. And in the last ten years the global temperatures stopped rising and are now in decline.

Really Al, show me where the temperatures are beyond natural fluctuations:

Gore agrees that the planet’s temperature has indeed experienced up and down cycles, but he says the current up cycle is too extreme. “It’s way off the charts compared to what those natural fluctuations are,” he says.

Here is look at long term temperatures

CO2HCNlongterm

One word of caution, these are USHCN numbers, which [have been] adjusted. Past temperatures are going down and the more recent going up.

Going, going Gored:

No place is immune to global warming, Gore says. “Of the thousand largest glaciers on every continent, 997 of them are receding,” he says. “And it’s not seasonal.”

Glacier-retreat

Glaciers have been retreating long before CO2 was problem. (Graphic from Climate Skeptic) Now we learn that the glaciers have stopped retreating and are expanding:

After years of decline, glaciers in Norway are again growing, reports the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, as reported in Daily Tech.

DailyTech has previously reported on the growth in Alaskan glaciers, reversing a 250-year trend of loss. Some glaciers in Canada, California, and New Zealand are also growing, as the result of both colder temperatures and increased snowfall.

Al needs to take a second look at the North Pole:

“The North Pole is melting.”

Ice_compare

Here is comparison of the ice in November 1980 and 2008. Do you see some major differences, like the “North Pole is melting.” (Note: Earlier photos do not show snow coverage) Details at Cryosphere  Today

Katrina again:

“Temperature increases are taking place all over the world, including in the oceans. Gore warns that when the oceans get warmer, storms get stronger. In August 2005, millions of Americans were left homeless by Hurricane Katrina, one of the most powerful hurricanes in recent history. Gore says people should expect more Category 4 and 5 hurricanes if the ocean waters continue to warm.”

Cyclonic_activity

Looks like a decline in cyclone energy to me, not an increase.

Please let Oprah know that you expected more from someone of her intelligence and veracity here.

11.28.08: The Oprah Winfrey Show: "A Green Truth" by Al Gore - Transcript and Photos
- - Al Gore On Oprah - What To Do About Global Warming (Green Moonbat): Al Gore appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show today to explain the harmful effects of global warming and what will happen if we don't do something now to preserve the earth's atmosphere for future generations. Oprah called Al Gore's Academy Award winning DVD "An Inconvenient Truth " a must see movie for everyone (Gore mentioned at least five times during the one hour show for people to buy his fraudulent movie - which has grossed to-date over $82 million ~ FlA). Al Gore has also written a book on the effects of global warming titled "An Inconvenient Truth: The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It ." Gore says that we have about another 10 years before the effects on the planet become irreversible and that we need to take action now. Oprah Winfrey compared Al Gore to Noah in the Bible because he is trying to warn others about potentially disastrous climate changes.

Environmental issues - economic issues - 10 years “blah blah blah”

We need to come up with our own 10 year crisis to scare the bejeezus out of everyone with.

In my book, something “past the point-of-no-return means just that. There is no way you can return. so this Gore statement is a bunch of gobble de gook.

Gore needs many sessions with Dr. Phil

Thanks, that was thoroughly entertaining on a dreary Wed. workday.

Now, I've always wondered, does Al have any scientific education that would make him any type of authority on this? I doubt it.

The world temperatures have greatly fluctuated over the history of our turbulent world. I come from the save a watt generation of the 70s. It is important not to throw garbage out our windows, true, but otherwise this is the biggest hoax played on the greatest Nation in the world. Does not his body language say it all in that first picture with BO and Biden? Yeah, humor is the divine antidote for the exaltation of ego big time!! Sheesh...

ah yes but the US government has just produced a trillion dollars for the needy....and for months Algore and the greenies had to keep their mouths shut because temperatures were (and are)dropping..hence we now hear not global warming ,but climate change.....the US citizen was caught with high gas prices, high heating bills approaching, and the last thing they were going to hear is "give us what money you can to fight climate change"..Algore was way down on the list....but now with a lib president with a huge wallet (our taxes)and gas prices way down.....up he pops like the clown he is out of that annoying noisy little hole with open palms and more lies, to pad his own wallet with tax money.(ours). Really not surprising

I assume Al drove to Chicago in his hybrid car.
Or perhaps he flew there on a commercial airline.
Yes, I'm SURE he did that, knowing that he'd be greatly contributing to the problem if he flew on a private jet. </sarcasm>

I saw Hannity interview these 2 Global Warming ditzes last year. They were part of Leo DiCaprio's GW organization and were all starry eyed over his message about how we all need to cut back, drive less, buy hybrids, etc.

When Hannity asked if Leo flies commercial airlines when he goes ALL OVER THE WORLD delivering his global warming message, one of these chicks went BALLISTIC! She transformed into a shrieking ninny when he pointed out DiCaprio's absolute hypocrisy and how the message is getting IGNORED because of his hypocrisy in using a private jet. The other woman at least “got it” and managed to stay calm and at least was bearable to listen to, even though her message was pure idiocy.

Why should I drive around town in an overprice, teeny tiny hybrid when those dumba$$es won't even give up their private jets? Until I see them regularly riding in something tiny and uncomfortable, they just as well STFU.

THE ACQUITTAL OF CARBON DIOXIDE
by Jeffrey A. Glassman, PhD

ABSTRACT:

"Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere [historically] is the product of oceanic respiration due to the well-known but under-appreciated solubility pump. Carbon dioxide rises out of warm ocean waters where it is added to the atmosphere. There it is mixed with residual and accidental CO2, and circulated, to be absorbed into the sink of the cold ocean waters. Next the thermohaline circulation carries the CO2-rich sea water deep into the ocean. A millennium later it appears at the surface in warm waters, saturated by lower pressure and higher temperature, to be exhausted back into the atmosphere. Throughout the past 420 millennia, comprising four interglacial periods, the Vostok record of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration is imprinted with, and fully characterized by, the physics of the solubility of CO2 in water, along with the lag in the deep ocean circulation.

Notwithstanding that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, atmospheric carbon dioxide has neither caused nor amplified global temperature increases. Increased carbon dioxide has been an effect of global warming, not a cause. Technically, carbon dioxide is a lagging proxy for ocean temperatures. When global temperature, and along with it, ocean temperature rises, the physics of solubility causes atmospheric CO2 to increase.

If increases in carbon dioxide, or any other greenhouse gas, could have in turn raised global temperatures, the positive feedback would have been catastrophic. While the conditions for such a catastrophe were present in the Vostok record from natural causes, the runaway event did not occur. Carbon dioxide does not accumulate in the atmosphere."

http://www.rocketscientistsjournal.com/2006/10/co2_acquittal.html

_______________________________________________________________

The graph above represents temperature and CO2 levels over the past 400,000 years. It is the same exact data Al Gore and the rest of the man-made global warmers refer to. The blue line is temps, the red, CO2 levels. The deep valleys represent 4 separate glaciation/ice-age periods. Look carefully at this historical relationship between temps and CO2 levels (the present is on the right hand side of the graph) and keep in mind that Gore claims this data is the 'proof' that CO2 has warmed the earth in the past. But does the data indeed show this? Nope. In fact, rising CO2 levels all throughout this 400,000-year period actually *followed* temperature increases -lagging behind by an average of 800 years! So it couldn't have been CO2 that got Earth out of these past glaciations. Yet Gore continually and dishonestly claims otherwise. Furthermore, the subsequent CO2 level increases due to dissolved CO2 being released from warming oceans, never did lead to additional warming, the so-called "run-away greenhouse effect" that Al Gore and his friends keep warning us about. In short, there is little if any evidence that CO2 had ever led to increased warming, at least not when the levels were within 10-15 times of what they are today. -ETL

_______________________________________________________________

"The above chart shows the range of global temperature through the last 500 million years. There is no statistical correlation between the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere through the last 500 million years and the temperature record in this interval. In fact, one of the highest levels of carbon dioxide concentration occurred during a major ice age that occurred about 450 million years ago [Myr]. Carbon dioxide concentrations at that time were about 15 times higher than at present." [also see 180 million years ago, same thing happened]:
http://www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=010405M

_______________________________________________________________

So, greenhouse [effect] is all about carbon dioxide, right?

Wrong. The most important players on the greenhouse stage are water vapor and clouds. Carbon dioxide has been increased to about 0.038% of the atmosphere (possibly from about 0.028% pre-Industrial Revolution) while water in its various forms ranges from 0% to 4% of the atmosphere and its properties vary by what form it is in and even at what altitude it is found in the atmosphere.

In simple terms the bulk of Earth's greenhouse effect is due to water vapor by virtue of its abundance. Water accounts for about 90% of the Earth's greenhouse effect -- perhaps 70% is due to water vapor and about 20% due to clouds (mostly water droplets), some estimates put water as high as 95% of Earth's total tropospheric greenhouse effect (e.g., Freidenreich and Ramaswamy, 'Solar Radiation Absorption by Carbon Dioxide, Overlap with Water, and a Parameterization for General Circulation Models,' Journal of Geophysical Research 98 (1993):7255-7264).

The remaining portion comes from carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, ozone and miscellaneous other 'minor greenhouse gases.' As an example of the relative importance of water it should be noted that changes in the relative humidity on the order of 1.3-4% are equivalent to the effect of doubling CO2.

http://www.junkscience.com/Greenhouse/

_______________________________________________________________

Water Vapor Rules the Greenhouse System

Water vapor constitutes Earth's most significant greenhouse gas, accounting for about 95% of Earth's greenhouse effect (4). Interestingly, many 'facts and figures' regarding global warming completely ignore the powerful effects of water vapor in the greenhouse system, carelessly (perhaps, deliberately) overstating human impacts as much as 20-fold.

Water vapor is 99.999% of natural origin. Other atmospheric greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and miscellaneous other gases (CFC's, etc.), are also mostly of natural origin (except for the latter, which is mostly anthropogenic).

Human activities contribute slightly to greenhouse gas concentrations through farming, manufacturing, power generation, and transportation. However, these emissions are so dwarfed in comparison to emissions from natural sources we can do nothing about, that even the most costly efforts to limit human emissions would have a very small-- perhaps undetectable-- effect on global climate.

I read an article (posted on FR) that says in Britain they are gearing up to sue companies whenever there is weather related damage because it can now be "proved" that the cause is global warming. This insanity has to stop and soon. When companies start being sued for the weather, its only a matter of time before we degenerate into all out anarchy. The late, great Michael Crichton wrote an excellent article (actually, it was a speech) titled "Aliens Cause Global Warming". It showed how the tolerance of "harmless" junk science back in the 60s paved the way for the current global warming hysteria. Actually, here is the link: Crichton The truth is GW is just a boggieman to force a whole host of political agendas down our throats, including massive wealth transfers to the UN & the Third World. It is the most massive and expensive hoax ever perpetrated.

This show was actually a repeat of Oprah's Earth Day show from
April 22, 2008. I could not bear to watch it the first time because of Algore, so there is no way I would have watched the rerun. This is one thing that you can not entirely blame on Oprah because the MSM has so completely bought in to the Global Warming propaganda that it refuses to report any findings that contradict their “truth”. That keeps the public ignorant of the arguments against it and more willing to accept extreme measures to combat something that does not exist.

BTW, I have a Masters degree in Biology and was in sophormore in college on the very first Earth Day when the fear was global cooling and a new ice age. I have been teaching Biology for almost 30 years and I do my best to present both sides of the argument to my students even though our textbook favors the point of view that global warming not only exists but that human activity is responsible. Just like the controversy about evolution, many scientists are afraid to present both sides of the argument and let the students draw their own conclusions from the evidence. That is what the scientific method is all about, but it has been corrupted by people with a socialist political agenda.

...ever wonder why there has never been a public DEBATE on this so-called crisis? All we hear is the results of conferences where all in attendence has agreed...????... The nasty little note here is, if you don't agree, your not invited to attend...further more when you produce facts and figures to "prove" the numbers or assumptions are wrong, you are defunded, banished, ridiculed, all by the liberal media, liberal colleges, and libs pushing for tax dollars in DC. The fact that Algores movie was pulled from theaters in Britain because a judge said, "facts and figures" were fabricated, don't seem to stop the "green party" from forcing their agenda on America. Also many people don't realize the "green party" originated in socialist Germany. Before the US GOVERNMENT spends any money on any "cause" there should be an open and honest debate open to the public, hearing BOTH SIDES carried over a month to determine WHETHER OR NOT SUCH FUNDS ARE ALLOCATED. Not stolen and wasted or given away for votes

He’s a buffoon, a snake-oil salesman, and one of the biggest wastes of protoplasm on the planet.

Speaking of............

In this Nov. 3, 1992 file photo, a secret service agent pulls on the pants of the falling Vice President-elect Al Gore after he leaned into the crowd to embrace Jim Carville, the Clinton-Gore campaign chief strategist, during the election victory celebration at the Old State House in Little Rock, Ark. The Secret Service code name for Gore was Sundance. - Courtesy FR AmericanMade1776

It is a shame the issue has become so polarized (Thanks Liberals!). There are some serious questions and issues that can be raised about CO2 and the environment. There are a FEW scientists who talk about it calmly and rationally, w/o the hysteria, but all the general public here is the "We Are All Gonna Die!" of one side, vs the "Its All a Myth!" on the other side..

A real shame..

Nixon doesn’t look so real, but Jackie and Hillary are spot on the money! Maybe it’s because they were already a little “waxy.”

Pay more in taxes to the gubbermint so gubbermint scientists can pretend to control the weather.

Whatever it takes to get the taxes flowing.

I couldn’t help but note that Bill O’Reilly and Ted Turner share the same opinion on gorebal warming: they believe it!

The earth has warmed over the last few centuries. No doubt about it. Bill is against the Kyoto treaty saying it would hurt the US economy. I would bet that TT is for Kyoto treaty?
