I recommend that you read through the previous “Are you looking for a job?” threads for tips and ideas. I have gathered all the resources from them to this thread.

Are you looking for a job? (Thread #1)

Are you looking for a job? (#2) Expanded list! (Thread #2)

Are you looking for a job? (#3) [A Nice List] (Thread #3)

Are you looking for a job? (#4) [A Better List] (Thread #4)

The more precisely you planned your future, the harder that your temporary unemployment will hit you. Flexibility must be the order of the day to maintain a healthy attitude.

Good luck

I'm going to keep bumping this in the hope that it will help those here who may need a little boost.

I'm going to add a thought or two that you may not see elsewhere. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please feel free to pitch in.

As an employer I have hired when unemployment was 2% and I have hired when it was 10%. The circumstances affect what I am looking for. It is harder to hire when I have two or three hundred applications for one job sitting on my desk. Other companies tend to take advantage of a bad situation and dump their deadwood first, seemingly with good resumes but who disrupt more than they contribute to an organization. My defenses go to “high”, too high, and I miss some good bets. Watch your references. Line them up in advance and have them ready.

When times are tough they are tough on me, too. I can't afford the “slop”, the extra employee or two who you have to keep on to fill in for people who like to “call off” four or five times a month. I don't care how good you are, if you can't show up I don't want you. I would rather have a solid and dependable “6” than a “10” who is a prima donna.

I don't want to hear how badly you need a job. The other three hundred need a job, too. I want to hear what you can do for me. I want the guy who goes the extra mile. I'm an employer, not your Daddy.

Add your problems or thoughts and keep this bumped for your friends and neighbors.

Good luck and may God Bless.

I will keep this filed but I am currently over employed and over paid.

When my daughter was looking for a job recently the first thing she did was go see her references and had them lined up to vouch for her. She got the second job she applied for over 300 applications with HSU...
