..UNSETTLED WEATHER THIS WEEK...
A COUPLE OF PACIFIC STORMS WILL AFFECT SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA NEXT
WEEK. THIS WILL BRING UNSETTLED WEATHER WITH PERIODS OF RAIN AND
MOUNTAIN SNOW.
THE FIRST SYSTEM APPROACHING FROM THE NORTHWEST WILL MOVE THROUGH
MONDAY WITH RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW. SHOWERS WILL LINGER INTO
TUESDAY. MOST OF THE COLD AIR WILL INITIALLY REMAIN TO THE NORTHEAST
WITH THE LOCAL SNOW LEVELS 5500 TO 6500 FT MONDAY THEN LOWERING TO
BETWEEN 4000 AND 4500 FT TUESDAY.
RAINFALL TOTALS SHOULD RANGE FROM ABOUT HALF NEAR THE COAST TO ABOUT
AN INCH ON THE LOWER COASTAL MOUNTAIN SLOPES. UP TO ABOUT A THIRD OF
AN INCH IS EXPECTED IN THE DESERTS. LOCAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO
8 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY MOUNTAINS WITH ABOUT 3 TO 6 INCHES IN THE
RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS AND 1 TO 3 INCHES IN THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY
MOUNTAINS. THERE COULD ALSO BE AN INCH OR TWO OF SNOW ON THE HIGHER
PEAKS OF THE SANTA ANA MOUNTAINS. LOCALLY GREATER ACCUMULATIONS OF
RAIN AND SNOW ARE POSSIBLE DURING HEAVIER SHOWERS. GUSTY WINDS WILL
ACCOMPANY THIS SYSTEM...MAINLY LATE MONDAY AFTERNOON INTO TUESDAY IN
THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS.
ANOTHER STORM COULD BRING MORE RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW WEDNESDAY WITH
SHOWERS LINGERING INTO FRIDAY. THE EXACT STRENGTH...TIMING AND PATH
OF THIS SYSTEM REMAIN UNCERTAIN...BUT IT COULD BRING SIMILAR
PRECIPITATION TOTALS AS THE STORM EARLIER IN THE WEEK.
PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN WILL INCREASE THE FLASH FLOOD POTENTIAL.
PEOPLE IN AND BELOW RECENTLY BURNED AREAS OR NEAR STEEP TERRAIN
SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE FLASH FLOODING AND DEBRIS FLOW. THE
SHOWERS WILL ALSO MAKE ROADS SLICK. SNOW...BLOWING SNOW AND DENSE
FOG WILL MAKE TRAVEL HAZARDOUS IN THE MOUNTAINS. OTHERWISE...THE
PRECIPITATION WILL BENEFIT IRRIGATION NEEDS. PEOPLE PLANNING OUTDOOR
ACTIVITIES SHOULD MONITOR THE LATEST WEATHER FORECASTS.

Here in Colorado we’re going to be shoveling snow—a lot.
That’s in the Desert...you need to move if you want more rain...more is not authorized for the desert at this time....
Maybe they need some of the bailout money so they can get machines with lower case!!!

It’s so strange for a flatlander like me to hear folks upset about 1/3 inch of rain. We get nearly that much in a heavy fog!
But in the mountains, especially burned over mountains, it is a major problem.

Good! Since Wednesday's 2 1/2", the sandy soil around here is still quite damp.
Desert cities engineers have also never heard the term "drainage" apparently. We had tons of clogged and flooded streets and intersections, complete with closures, last week.
