NEW HAVEN, CT - In an effort to recognize the diverse traditions of the holiday season, the City has installed a Festivus pole in the Market Street square. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. With the addition of this new holiday centerpiece, the square is now thought to be the most diverse public display of late fall holiday symbols in the country...

Just mocking Christianity and Christmas - nothing more to see here.
Gotta devalue the celebration of the Creator of the Universe putting aside his glory to become incarnate in human form in order to save our sorry asses.

The square now boasts, along with the pole, a set of kinara Kwanzaa candles, an oversized bronze Menorah, a Ramadan prayer rug, a large World Aids Day ribbon, an Esperanto plaque commemorating Zamenhof Day, A Finnish Independence Day flag and an x-mas tree.Once again, everything but a Christian symbol.

Well, if festivus is going to become a national holiday I'm looking forward to the feats of strength when the population gets to get the president, congress and senate into a collective headlock and pin them to the floor. And then we can start airing our grievances on how they've let us down over the last year...of course doing so is going to take at least a year to complete the list.

Noticed in the article, the last display mentioned is an “x-mas” tree. No manger, no mention of Christ or Christmas.
I think I’d like to tell New Haven where they can put their Festivus pole.

...the diverse traditions of the holiday season...One must wonder what those diverse traditions are and exactly what holiday is referred to. Could it be, perchance, MLK's birthday, the 4th of July, New Year's Day, or surely not the birth of our Savior.
Diverse could mean perverse, as in homosexuals and their traditions handed down by satan.
New Haven, unfortunately, has slid into a sewer over the past 25 years and is today a valueless metro area.
For those poor souls who celebrate Christmas I would first of all not buy anything in New Haven and secondly I would plan to get the 'hell' out of that hole.

Quite tacky. It's supposed to be a bare metal pole and besides, that doesn't look like aluminum to me.
Aluminum is preferred because of it's high strength-to-weight ratio.
At least it doesn't have tinsel.

Actually it is the Asherah pole that was danced around during pagan times.
People were offered up to the pole and killed. Sexual dancing, sex acts and general nakedness and drunkenness were also part of the Asherah poles worship.
Eskimo totems poles are a more modern version

Thanks for the laugh this morning, where even though it is 10:30 a.m., the sun has not yet peeked over the horizon.
In all seriousness, though, a fair amount of the humor in “Seinfeld” came from mocking liberal icons. The boy in the bubble is an obnoxious snot; gay thugs harass Kramer; recycling goes awry as the guys bring cans to Michigan; volunteerism turns into looting a loud curmudgeon for his records - not to mention a hot woman from Senegal and bald heads; and the main characters are typical New York liberals portrayed as aimless, amoral, listless, and ignorant.
The Festivus holiday mocks the liberal attitude that all holidays around Christmas are supposed to be held with equal reverence. Those of us who are New Yorkers (originally) grew up with Christmas portrayed equally with a minor Jewish festival, Hannukah, and, in later years, the utterly make-believe holiday of Kwanzaa. Festivus has a lot of Kwanzaa in it, especially with the addressing of grievances and the fact that one guy invented it because he was annoyed.
Great link to a great humor newspaper. Hope it isn’t blocked at work.

The satire discernment threshold around here is pretty low.
You pretty much need to post the word "SATIRE" in red neon letters for some to get the joke.

Gosh, no cross, and Christ has "disappeared from the equation" becoming no more the Son of God who claimed to be the only path to Him, and changed into an "x", lowercase at that.

For a minute, they had me.
That is, until I clicked the link and saw their other news articles.
Being from IL I like the Blago-Nike Deal 'news' article.
The agreement, rumored to be valued as high as an appeals court appointment, is valid as long as Blagojevich avoids prison, where Nike products are banned by Illinois law. The contract is also reported to contain escalator clauses that allows bonus payments for any public trials or impeachment.
That's pretty funny, because it could almost be true. ....

Liberalism and Baal worship....what’s the difference? i don’t know, but here are the similarities.
They worship:
-Themselves
-The things they made or stole
-Themselves
-Themselves
-Their wickedness
-Their shrewd, wickedness.
-Themselves and their money
Did I mention themselves?
