Us Army ready if the downturn gets out of hand

ARE you afraid that the eco nomic downturn could get out of hand? I mean, really out of hand?

Well, don't worry.

The US Army War College is on the case - ready to handle "unforeseen economic collapse" and the "rapid dissolution of public order in all or significant parts of the US."

And you thought we were just dealing with a recession!

In a report published Nov. 4 - just in time for the holiday season - the War College's Strategic Studies Institute posited a number of shocks that the country should be prepared for, including unrest caused by the economy's failure.

The report has a snappy title, "Known Unknowns: Unconventional 'Strategic Shocks' in Defense Strategy Development," and was written by Nathan Freier, a visiting professor at the college. The foreword was written by Col. John A. Kardos, director of the Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute.

Freier lists a number of possible things we should worry about - because we probably don't have enough of our own - including run-of-the-mill terrorism and the fact that China and Russia could align against us politically and economically.

"Some of the most plausible defense-relevant strategic shocks remain low-probability events," Freier soft-pedals before going on to scare the hell out of us.

The War College says "widespread civil violence inside the US would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security."

Among things Freier wants us to worry about are "deliberate employment of weapons of mass destruction. . . unforeseen economic collapse, loss of functioning political and legal order, purposeful domestic resistance or insurgency and catastrophic natural and human disasters."

Oh, and by the way, have a Merry Christmas!

One of the reasons Obama wants his civilian defense force. Easier to control than the military.

I’ve downloaded and read the report. It’s available free online to anyone who cares to take the time and effort to read it.

It’s basically a preparedness plan for a variety of long shot events that probably won’t occur. The fact that folks are using it to monger fear is more distressing than the report itself.

Hasn’t this been thought of as far back as 1941?

‘monger fear’

Lol. The Gov’t has already been doing that. Bailouts, Patriot Act, Iraq, etc.

This is probably my greatest concern regarding the upcoming obumbler regime. The last thing I want to do is put myself across the fireline from our troops but I will do anything necessary to protect me & mine.

My fear is that ‘our troops’ are going to become his troops...

I think so. Even if little green men show up in their foo fighters with ray guns, then the top brass will know what to do.

Most of the report deals with improbable incidents overseas.

Sounds like we will have to go to war against our own military. I’ll protect myself, thank you, even if it’s against our own government troups.

Question for active duty and recently discharged military. Would the troops and officers fire on American citizens in an attempt to confiscate our legally owned weapons? The military is sworn to uphold the constitution. WILL THEY???

Only if he is in fact a natural born us citizen. Otherwise he is not the cic.
I believe our military would more than likely be on the side of the US Constitution, that they have sworn to defend.

My fear is that ‘our troops’ are going to become his troops...

I wouldn't fear too much about that. Not with our military's current demographic makeup. Most of our soldiers that that oath to defend the Constitution pretty seriously. They also know they have the right to refuse illegal orders.

Unlike the way they are portrayed by hollywad, they are not jack-booted thugs just waiting for the chance to lord it over the rest of us.

“Most of the report deals with improbable incidents overseas.”

....a while back they were considering the impact of revolution or national disaster in Mexico...such an event could trigger mass exodus....remember the “boat people” fleeing S.E.Asia in the 70s?....how would we deal with millions of “foot people” streaming into the southwest?...they would have to be stopped at gunpoint...and suppose they resisted at gunpoint?....and suppose their hispanic brethern in the U.S. helped them resist?.

Read the study. It’s interesting. It’s extremely short. And there are elements of the thing, such as dealing with the improbable event, that you can use in your own life. It’s very much like The Black Swan for military ops.

“...our own government troups.”

There’s a Monty Python skit in that spelling!

Given the current situation in Mexico, what you describe is entirely possible. MS-13 will instantly become a domestic terrorist group paid by Mexico.

As no one else seems to give a damn, perhaps a military coup would be a good way to get rid of the Kenyan.

In my humble opinion, your fear is totally justified.
