Parody author defends 'Barack the Magic Negro' December 29, 2008 12:35 EST
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- The Memphis author of the musical parody "Barack the Magic Negro" says he isn't surprised the song has gotten some people upset.
Author Paul Shanklin describes the song as political satire and says it's supposed to be provocative.
The song, which is sung to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon, has drawn attention and criticism since Chip Saltsman -- the former head of the Republican Party in Tennessee -- sent out a CD with the song on it as Christmas presents.
Saltsman managed Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's presidential campaign and is now running for chairman of the Republican National Committee.
The song questions whether Obama is "authentically" black and intimates white voters wouldn't have voted for him if he had been from "the hood."

I’d heard that when the MSM let out the news a couple weeks ago re his middle name being “Hussein”, many who had voted for him were shocked and a little upset. We all knew it from the beginning, but these people had never taken the time to inform themselves of anything about this poser.
I didn't -- thanks for the clarification. But it still doesn't work. It's just not funny.

and so on.... The humor of Obama is all in the gushing.
Also, it wasn’t even Shanklin’s “line”; it was from an article in the “L.A. Times”, I believe. The RNC should criticize the original writer instead of the person paying attention and bringing it to the public’s attention.
I’m convinced that most Americans aren’t intelligent enough to be allowed to vote.
Yes..generally, I can listen to them and smile. But “Banking Queen” is the terrible. It makes me violent. LOL!
Banking Queen doesn’t work on my car radio. With road noise and AM’s limitations, it’s very hard to understand. I’d love to hear it digitally in a quiet environment.

No, the dictionary is not a defense. It is a reality, and that is no bunk. And, the word is “considered racist” only by race baiters and those who have been conditioned to consider it racist by an overabundance of political correctness. If more people actually knew words and definitions, we would be less likely to fall prey to those who have been so successful at dividing us.
Most people use “white” and “black” when referring to the Caucasian and Negro races, for obvious reasons. If, at some point, a race hustler sees an advantage in hustling a particular viewpoint on using those two descriptive words, I have no doubt there will be some who will be sucked in by it as well.
Leftists use that strategy to play on ignorance in order to divide people and advance their agenda. You are correct, so much of the divide and conquer strategy began in the sixties.
The same strategy is being used by those promoting the leftist homosexual agenda right now. The word “homosexual” is becoming “offensive” to those who prefer to be called “gay”.
I don’t go out of my way to use words to offend people that I know are genuinely sensitive to the use of a particular word. But, we need to understand exactly why and how some of the “sensitivities” that are dividing us as Americans came to be, and to be aware of the machinations and manipulations that are behind it.
This non-issue of the Shanklin CD, is a prime example of making a mountain out of a molehill by skewing it into an “issue” to suit the political desires of some person or some group.

You can rationalize all you want. The fact is the word Negro is not used today in any way then an insult. It is racist. I want to fight for conservative principles. I have no desire to defend a stupid song which should never have been written or aired by Rush...Certainly not given out by any RNC official. Let’s try to be the smart party for a change.
Did you get this all bent out of shape when the LA Times wrote the story in the first place?
The main point is how CNN and others are now reporting on this...no mention of the LA Times creating the original story and title, no mention of Rev Al's actual comments. Just a proclamation that this type of hate speech can be heard every day on conservative talk radio.
The story being conjured up by the MSMs is aimed at conservative talk radio, Rush specifically...not the RNC. Whether we like the parody or not, we have to rally behind the facts and help get the word out.

I don’t read the LA Times...so I only read it after I heard the song. As a matter of fact, I though it was a really lousy story and not particularly well written. I certainly saw little connection between the author’s point and the song.
You don’t understand what kind of power play is going on here...
Also, I am not bent out of shape by the song. I am bent out of shape because it hurts the GOP at a very difficult time.
Imagine a world where no one wrote the stupid song, thus Rush didn’t play it and RNC dolts didn’t get caught passing it around...a world where less people believe the GOP to be racist. This is a controversy manufactured by conservatives and it’s not smart.
If you’re going to be consistent, raise hell at the LA Times and the author of the story instead shooting all your bullets at Rush and Paul Shanklin.
To me, it was one of Paul’s very best parodies. It is absolutely biting satire aimed at the Drive-By Media and their hypocrisy.
No it isn't. It is a faux controversy manufactured by the Drive-By Media. And you've fallen for it hook, line and sinker.
