A very important case. The Vangs used armed resistance to defend themselves against the police, and not only survived, but are being compensated.

Been through a swat raid, though not as dramatic as this one.
The cops denied it ever happened.
But that was in Florida, 20 years ago. Civil rights have come along way since then.

This type of settlement should happen every time the wrong house is invaded by the paramilitary police. The amount should double for every killed family pet.

She said ... most police officers are good ...
Be nice if there was a sure-fire way to tell the difference.

Yes. It appears that this is the only way we will get the “no knock” raids under control. The “war on drugs” has done a great deal of harm to our right to be safe in our houses and persons in this country.

Wow, that's a story. It is miraculous that almost 30 rounds went down range and no one was killed. Something's got to be done about these no-knock warrants. Things are getting out of hand.
Incidentally, am I the only one who didn't know what a "Hmong" family is?
To: RobinOfKingston
Wonder what would have happened if the home owner opened fire on the police with an AK47 and killed them all?

There is something particularly sweet about living rural and having an acquaintance with those might be called upon to raid a given home. Barring an incursion by Hussein Obama’s (as yet to be inaugurated) Civil Security Force, I feel safe.

The Hmong in the U.S. are the refugees and descendants of same who were our allies in the just and honorable fight against the world communist threat in Vietnam. We lost that battle, but won the cold war.
The Hmong are still with us, and are not pacifists.

Heffelfinger said police, who were looking for black suspects, should have realized that a Hmong family resided at the home... because of various Hmong-related "ornaments and other things" So the police should have racially profiled a typical 'Hmong' vs. a typical 'black' family?
Sounds to me that the compensation is fair and if it can be proved that the informant was purposefully deceptive to the police, then he should be charged.

Hmmm. Good to know. I’m a little embarrassed that I have never heard the word before.

The Hmong were the mountain tribes in Vietnam. They were hunters and gatherers, and practiced small agriculture.

Well the newest case will probably be more. And the killing of the kid in oakland is going to cost millions!

It was a ‘Hmong That killed all the hunters last year for no reason, other than it was he that was trespassing. But has nothing to do with this case.

There are a lot of Hmongs in the Central Valley of California. Nice folks, mostly, except for the thug types who are in gangs.
One Hmong-run fruit stand has THE best strawberries in the spring.
