There is another side that people who know him see, which is seldom discussed here, but should be. And that is "asshole". I'm not being flip here. I'm serious. He is a genuine honest to goodness one-in-a-million example. He knows what he is doing, and he will do his damnedest to minimize his own damage, whatever it takes. The one thing about a true asshole, is that he is dependable. You can count on him to always be an asshole. With that in mind you can stay a step ahead of him. Discount it, and he'll eat you for breakfast.

Good point.

That's exactly how he comes over to me.

An asshole, who's totally self-absorbed.

“I thought the main reason for Fitz arresting him when he did is so Blago couldn’t appoint anyone to the Senate seat.... LOL. We see how that worked out. “

Fitz is holding, what, three-four weeks of Nov-Dec ‘08 wiretaps?
He pulled the plug just as JJJ was about to pay for play. Hell, they even held the “fundraiser.”
Blago was to pay his dues for playing hardball with Rahm, (ie. Valerie Jarrett).
The trap was for Blago and others were caught in the web.
Fitz has no HARD evidence.
It was assumed Blago would resign and not make the senate appointment.
Blago impeached but vows to fight on, mentioning Rahm and the Swimmer in his presser.

Blago: 2
Team 0: 0

I said an acquittal in the criminal trial may give Blago the notion of seeking reinstatement.

There's no such thing as "reinstatement" after being removed from office. Maybe he could be reelected to the Governorship (assuming Illinois law permits it), but the removal could not be invalided by a criminal acquittal.

“Wikipedia says Thomas Fitzgerald is a Catholic, but the vast majority of history is from Chicago/Illinois. I see he taught at Kent Law School. My nephew graduated from Kent around 2003-4. I wonder if he has any information. I’ll have to ask; it was after Fitzgerald’s time. BTW, he was just elected Chief Justice this past May.”

I noticed it says he is a member of the Leo High School Hall of Fame. That’s a Catholic boys high school on the south side of Chicago—it would have been a blue collar area at the time he would have been going to school there. It says his father was a judge, so he was probably from the Beverly neighborhood, with Dem political connections.

You people are reading things into what I said that I never said. And I stand by what I say. I'll not discuss it further with anyone who can't comprehend.

I said at the time of the arrest. The arrest was a charade.
IMO:
Fitz was/is choreographing the dance and turning each minion into his puppet in order to catch the biggest fish.

Heaven knows the pond is full and they each want to have their cases deminished....Chicago crooks have no scrupples but to turn on someone else to perserve themselves.....

The smaller the fish, the earlier he appears in the radar. Ie Rezko, Kelly, Wyma*...Look for indictments of the Mayor & President.

Big Fish: Mayor, Governor, President.....Two out of three isn’t bad!

Time will tell exactly what Blago has on anyone else...

Personally, my money say Scooter Libby gets charged and convicted for something before it's all said and done.

That's what happened the last time Fitzgerald investigated a crime committed by a Democrat.

He’s a Democrat. Thats established. What was questioned was whether he has any Kennedy connections.

I understand all that, but that’s not my point.

Since this whole episode broke on 12/9, the dems have basically been in attack with Blago. In my mind, all they have done is made a bad situation worse. Blago has the goods - I cannot believe the whole democratic party - both locally in IL and national in DC - have continually attacked him. I would have thought they would be looking for ways to make this whole thing go away, instead it appears that they are only fanning the flames and making it worse.

Yabbut...if Blago spills his guts (hopefully not like Braveheart, literally!) and tells some truth or truths about Obama, he may never make it to the inauguaration!! (O, that is)

I think it’ll be kinda like when Vanessa Williams became the first black Miss America, only shorter. ;-)

(snicker)

I think some people are assuming that Shep Smith is a serious news reporter—he’s always made those little comments about various stories instead of just ‘Brit Hume’ing it! That’s what is enjoyable about his shows...except when he’s falling apart on location, like with Katrina. Yep, he was a drama queen on that one, but I still think Geraldo won that time!

>> Have you noticed that no one in this disgusting saga is really looking out for the interests of the people of Illinois? <<

Nah, can't be. The "abolish the 17th amendment" crowd on FR says this whole scandal is a "textbook example" for their little pet cause of having elite politicians pick our Senators for us. How dare anyone accuse Illinois politicians of not having the best interests of Illinois at heart. State Legislatures know the interests of the state far better than the citizens of that state. I'm sure the Chicago machine politicians have nothing but honesty and integrity.

He was coming up when Old Man Daley was mayor. The Kennedy connections there are widely known. I think its safe to assume there are connections...

"I believe it was late 2003 or early 2004, an idea that was brought to me by then-Congressman Rahm Emanuel, who suggested that since the big pharmaceutical companies had a tremendous amount of sway with the FDA, ... that maybe we should try something different and go to Canada ... We did that in Illinois, being the first state in America to defy the FDA and the big drug companies."

Here's the verbage from the transcripts. I think he is trying to establish as fact that Rahm Emanuel comes to him with ideas.

This is for his future reference if needed.

Under those circumstances, not only would I be in trouble, but I’d have to prevent Shep from becoming hysterical.

Shep invoked the memory of the shoe thrower in Iraq when Blag0 was speaking. It was probably the most unprofessional thing I ever heard from a talking head.
