Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon maintained a full schedule of events today, but declined to take questions about yesterday's indictment.
The day was not without hitches. At her first event, at the Upton Boxing Gym for the launch of a citywide fitness program, the mayor and others donned gloves and worked out -- running in a circle in a boxing ring and doing practice punches -- to the tune "Eye of the Tiger." The ring began to move and then the metal stanchions supporting it collapsed.
"It was a little shaky up there and I was like, 'Wow this is a little weak,'" Dixon said. Dixon said after a member of her security detail helped her out of the ring. Nobody was injured.
Dixon was charged yesterday with a 12-count indictment including theft, perjury and fraud, stemming from gifts she received from Ronald H. Lipscomb, a prominent developer and one-time boyfriend whose projects received city tax breaks. At a news conference she denied the charges.
