RE :”Steele can get elected in Maryland. That should tell you all you need to know about him.”

Sorry I live in MD and he lost big as Senator 2006, couldnt get the AA vote. He did help Gov Erhlich the first election but left him hanging in 2006 just to lose two elections that year(Gov and Senate).

Steele didn’t do too well in Maryland when he ran for the Senate. He lost to a cardboard cutout old white guy who is about as interesting as snow on the TV. That despite an incumbent Governor that had a 65% approval rating (but still lost)!!!

I think that there are a lot of people who I would refer to as independents and moderates, but not Clinton socialists.

But if I read you correctly, the base is lost the moment the base does not get its way, unless they get candidates who they have sanctioned.

If you only want the ideologically pure, you can be quite self satisfied, and out of power. JMO.

If there is one major problem that the conservative has it does not recognize who the real enemy to America is. It is NOT McCain, Steele or Hagel. It is Obama. It’s that simple. And along with that the conservatives, IMHO, often choose not to coalesce around one candidate but spread their loyalties among two or three so as to allow RINO’s like McCain to come up the middle. Look I support Sarah Palin. But for the future of America I would rather the conservatives of America shun Sarah if it would mean that you would coalesce around another conservative.

“......he’s African American.....”

Thats not a deal maker for me.

I have seen what 98% of the blacks want for our country..... and I am not the least bit interested in giving them what they want.

No, I am really not a racist and I refuse to allow anyone to turn me into one, but I am sick of this skin color fad and I actually don’t think that it’s a bad thing to be white, either.

Besides, I think he’s a gun grabber.

No thanks.

I can live with it as long as my conscience is clear. Besides, you'll be right there with us unless you decide you want to be on the winning team and go democrat.

Guess that can happen when you are a “moderate”. Hard to build a reliable base. But if he was conservative, he wouldn’t even be a player in Maryland.

Steele is EXACTLY what we need.

If you want a gun grabber.

Steele wants to ban semi-automatic firearms, aka "assault weapons".

He also can't grasp the simple fact that the Second Amendment isn't about hunting.

Michael Steele on Gun Control

Q: Should people have access to buy assault weapons?

A: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill. But I don't think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that But what's the point of passing gun laws if we're not going to enforce them? If you want to talk about gun control, that's where you need to start. We've got 300 gun laws on the books right now. At the end of the day, it's about how we enforce the law.

Ken Blackwell is both True Blue Conservative and Black... why don’t more know about this?

DMZ, the RhNC has 1 more misstep and the base will be gone...then you can have the all the Moderates and Rinos you want. IMO, Steele may be that misstep, I hope that Blackwell or another Conservative can do what is necessary to pull the RhNC/GOP off the cliff.

I think having an AA would be great for going after BoB. I just want to make sure his is not going after us, like that other guy that pushed amnesty. He killed off party donations, I certainly wouldn't donate after that, even if Obama was the other candidate.

We someone who can play politics first, someone who can communicate our ideas, and demonize the other side. Apologizing is a losing strategy. Look at Jack Kemp 1996. Going after republicans for siding with democrats is critical too.

I disagree. I live in Maryland, and I can tell you that he is a RINO.

He’s always been one and he still is one.

It’s disappointing to read that, as I liked Steele. After reading that? Not so much.

RE : “I disagree. I live in Maryland, and I can tell you that he is a RINO.”

I live here two and really like him , but I can see you are right. This “reach out to certain democrat groups” as he is saying is a minefield and usually is code for “take liberal positions” . The only way to gain these groups is wedge issues (and few will work right now) and brillant political posturing. (Sept 11 was a rare opportunity GWB blew) We already tried giving up our principles on economic issues, GWB massive deficits/compassionate conservatism bought him 20 % approval rating , as with Mr independent McCain who got few independent votes. If you have to lose, lose standing for something, not nothing. No matter how much Republicans sell out, it will be characterized as mean and conservative on election day. How about Mccain and Hispanics?

“Well, that’s not really why I support him.”

I know what you meant, I suspect that you meant well, and I am not desirous of picking your posts apart, that’s just not my style. I am just sick of this entire skin color thing.

Frankly, I no longer see our political system, and most of those involved in it, as anything other than completely corrupt. It’s broken and it no longer has any credibility...none.

Unless and until I see MSM completely destroyed and bus loads of politicians on their way to prison, the entire process will continue to make me puke.

I am no longer interested in compromise candidates. I have always been willing to vote for the greater good, yet always Republican, but that no longer works, if it ever did.

I will not vote for anyone that is not a fire-breathing conservative that is unapologetically ready, willing and able to go through Washington like a crazy man/woman with a meat cleaver. Washington and the rest of our political system needs to be gutted and returned to the basics (our Constitution), or our country is just not going to survive.

I am no longer interested in talk, I have never given a hoot about color..... I want real leadership and I demand JUTICE.

I do think of Larry as a nice guy, better than some, but I do not see in him as the guy we need right now. Skin color can no longer be a qualification, if it must, then lets have some fun and put someone of Japanese decent in Office and other important leadership positions. At least the Japanese know how to make things small, perhaps they can apply that talent to our morbidly obese government.

Ok, I am now off of my soapbox. ;<)

I do hope that you have a nice day.....

Gator

No. He supports affirmative action.

I agree. Why is it wrong for white people to discriminate against blacks, but OK for blacks to discriminate against whites?

Blackwell is a much better choice.
