Bush Family to Leave Many Treasured Items Inside White House

Unlike Bill and Hillary Clinton, George and Laura Bush will take few treasured mementos with them from their years at the White House. When the Clintons left the White House in January 2001, the former first couple took with them more than 50 gifts -- including a chandelier, flatware, and paintings -- valued at nearly $200,000. The Bushes, however, borrowed from furnishings that already existed within the White House collection, said Sally McDonough, press secretary to Laura Bush. "Mrs. Bush -- having the experience of being at the White House when her father-in-law was president -- knew how many beautiful things she had to choose from to furnish the residence. And she will go back to Texas with only those items that belong to her," McDonough told FOXNews.com. Bush's official state china service -- a Lenox gilt-edged style with a green basket weave border valued at $492,798 -- is a valued item that will remain at the White House. The 320 14-piece place settings were purchased with privately raised funds through the White House Historical Association Acquisition Trust. Two custom rugs, including one in the Diplomatic Reception Room with emblems from all 50 state flags, will also stay behind in the Executive Mansion. But the first family can opt to place a multitude of personal gifts they have received

“...The Clintons really were hicks...”

and they still are!

They’d take everything that wasn’t nailed down if they hadn’t been watched.

I heard, though, that they had to have some of the stuff they looted brought back to the White House. Anyone know if that’s true?

Women like to know these things. Especially if it has to do with decor and stuff.

We won’t get stories of 20K worth of vandalism, as we did in January of 2001 courtesy of the childlike Clinton administration types.

Except that Obama has re-hired all those Clintonites, and we can expect the vandalism again when they leave office in 2012.

The “O” key won't be removed from the keyboards nor will there be any graffiti tagging like the former White House white trash did when they vandalized The People's house on their way out. Like him or hate him, George W. Bush has class and dignity.

I didn't know this. I just remember that the rug in President Bush's office was in there quickly (I think the day he was inaugurated). I figured it was because they didn't want the one Clinton used.

To be honest, I kind of lean in that direction myself.

I thought Clinton would be the death of this nation too though. It does seem we’ll go to the bottom of the barrel today. Obama stands the chance of being quite a bit worse than Clinton, as bad as he was.

This painting, "Fifth Avenue in the Rain" by Childe Hassam, was taken by the Clintons when they left the White House. It was recovered by the feds, along with other valuable items belonging to the USA. President Bush then placed it on the wall just outside the door to the Oval Office.

The answer to my question about the rug in the oval office was answered last night. It's still there. They showed pictures of Obama entering the Oval Office for the first time, and the rug is still there. That's too bad IMO.
