Obama v Limbaugh
The London Guardian ^ | January 27, 2009 | Terry Mancour

Posted on 01/27/2009 5:12:15 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

This week's media feud between Barack Obama and Rush Limbaugh has far more significance than you might suspect. When Limbaugh came out with his reaction to the possibility of a successful left-leaning Obama administration with a heartfelt and purposefully incendiary "I hope he fails", it was the first shot in an inevitable war.

Dismissed as a mere right-wing blowhard by much of the left, Limbaugh is perhaps the closest thing to a unifying voice in the American conservative movement. His syndicated radio show is on the air for three hours a day Monday through Friday in hundreds of markets: 15 hours a week of solid commentary and opinion with no holds barred. He is the highlight of the rural American lunch hour, and his strong, confident voice can be heard in mechanic's shops, petrol stations and barbershops every day. He is – as he claims – an excellent broadcaster, a shameless and skilful self-promoter and a mover and shaker among the conservative elite. One or two marriages ago, he was wed to his bride under the auspices of supreme court justice Clarence Thomas. Last time I checked, that was a hard booking to get.

Limbaugh first came to prominence as a force in national politics in the 1994 elections, which brought a Contract With America-waving Republican majority to Congress. That deprived Bill Clinton of the agreeable legislature he wanted for his reform. After that, Limbaugh was a perpetual thorn in the Clintons' sides, ultimately leading to Bill Clinton's impeachment and setting the stage for the controversial election of George Bush. Limbaugh was instrumental in convincing the right-wing rank-and-file to support the Patriot Act, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and a possible air raid on Iran.

Sooner or later the media will get disenfranchised. º thinks he is one cool dude now but that attitude will get old fast.

Rub him out is right. nobama, with cowering republican acquiescence, is prepping for the his fairness doctrine gambit.

“Even pubbies like mccain and graham agree with me that Rush is too dangerous to our precious bipartisanship to go unchecked.”

Rush has a great opportunity here. He has a two-fer: the overreaching socialism of the Dems- and the “big government” Establishment Pubs. These Washington statists are going to try to conceal the economic mess they made through even more government- and Rush can go after them as his hero Reagan did the USSR. The divide has never been so stark.

Right now conservative politicians are holding back- but if the statists falter and Rush gets traction, they’ll come on board- and we might finally see a true conservative revolution. It’s really an historic opportunity. I think he knows it–

If Rush wanted to go down in history as the man who helped save this country, he’d seize this moment and start a third party and his entire audience would follow. YES WE CAN.

Now, it’s going to be interesting to see who stands with Rush. The enemy within is most dangerous whether through ignorance or by design.

You mean in places where they cling to their guns and religion? Somehow people in high rises in Manhattan know what he's saying, too.

Two years ago I never thought he would get the Democratic nomination, much less win, so I am in the don’t make the mistake the democrats made and misunderestimate the man and what he is capable of doing.

Mancour might have a good idea of the political game here, but does he really understand Chicago politics? Ø is already over reaching. Chicago thuggery cannot go unnoticed today. Not with the New Media, and Rush is very much part of that. There was a day when Rush would have been doomed. Not so today and Ø made a big mistake that will cost him and his party of fools. Too bad the eunuch Pubbies can't take advantage of it.

“Now, it’s going to be interesting to see who stands with Rush.”

Well I would suggest those that might turn on Rush read Pastor Niemoller’s poem.

As a side not people should take a look at the cartoon version of Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom” at the Mises Institute website. www.mises.org/books/TRTS/
