Or that they are saying “formerly militant”. I believe they are still on the State Dept.’s list as a terrorist organization are they not? (I’d have to check to be sure, but I don’t recall any change in their status).

Perhaps there are two groups being discussed here. A variation on the words in Arabic or something? I’ll check into that, it might be what they are dealing with, but it’s a little strange.

There are so many “little” Radical Islamic groups out there, one would be surprised. Everyone has heard of Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, but not many realize how many other “brother” groups there really are around the world.

Speaking of which... Manc, do you remember that post we got on the other thread the day before yesterday - about the CIA advertising for “Clandestine DOMESTIC Agents”? Makes one think. [Michael, there was a FReeper from Central Ohio that stated Clear Channel (radio) has been running advertisements for “Clandestine Domestic” CIA “Agents” since the election.]

I’d like to believe that there are people within all of these organizations who got into the “business” with Patriotic intentions, and such. I would like to believe that there are those even within the CIA and the FBI who still have some sense of allegiance to the U.S. and its principles vs. their superiors. I’d bet there are a large group of those in the military who think this way, but they are kind of stuck until the crap really hits the fan, and depending on the propaganda some may be fooled into thinking that actions against their own fellow citizens are warranted.

Perhaps someone IN the military can set my mind at ease regarding how those in our military would view orders against American citizens??? I know how those I know personally would most likely respond (refusal to obey), but I don’t know if those I know are typical, or the exception.

Well, first, it wouldn’t surprise me. Second, penelopesire has given a lot of information regarding this media outlet and those who work for it. It seems that those pushing this story right now have a pretty solid background, and respect.

Don’t get me wrong, or misunderstand my anger and frustration on this thread — I DO understand the need to “Trust but Verify”. I guess we’ll just have to see what comes out within the next few days or so.

Again though - this type of behavior does NOT surprise me at all, and is VERY plausible based on everything I have researched personally about Obama over the last year and a half or so. ESPECIALLY in light of the story about his going behind Bush’s back to talk to the leaders in Iraq about any agreements.

Obama DEFINITELY has the means, and availability to be in touch with these people — he’s known the people for YEARS, and some even helped finance his college education... Even if he didn’t talk to them through his contacts here in America, we know he has “Fresh” contacts via his cousin Odinga.

The group members met with Khalid Almidhar and Nawaf Alhamzi who piloted the plane that struck the U.S. Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Sufaat also met with Zacarias Moussaouf, currently being held on suspiscion of being a terrorist on the same mission as the 9/11 terrorists. Moussaouf was given $35,000 and employment letters by Sufaat. The group allegedly was behind nearly simultaneous bombings in December 2000 that killed 22 people in Manila. A leader in the group, Father Rohman Al-Ghozi, was arrested and pled guility to exploisves possession charge. Investigators say the group also planned to attack U.S. military personnel and naval vessels as well as the British High Commission, the Israeli Embassy and the Australian High Commission in Singapore. On October 11, 2002, the group was thought to br responsible for two bombings in Bali, killing over 183 and injuring more than 300. Subsequently, the aging Muslim cleric thought to be the leader, Abu Bakar Bashir was arrested by Indonesian police. As a testament to the power politically of Bashir in Indonesia, he was not actually questioned until November 1 while authorities waited for his doctors to certify he could be questioned. The group continues to press for a Islamic fundamentalist government that would encompass most of Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the southern Philippines.
