“Extra money= ammo and survival food.”

Earlier this week, I was in Walmart trying to buy self defense ammo not hunting ammo.

There was basically no pistol ammo, hi powered rifle ammo and 12 gauge 00. The manager of that section said that he and his fellow managers in Walmart had been unable to buy this type of ammo. He was very concerned.

The Outhouse! LOL! You know, The Outhouse has got really BIG windows - some of them look like doors!

Cut back your economic activity - every pebble helps the avalanche.

"Vae victis."

Appearances can be deceiving, as the German victors of Operation Barbarossa swiftly found out, to their chagrin.

Hmmm. We’ll see. Me...I’m an optimist so I don’t see it in quite those terms. Then again I survived the Carter era.

After the election, I posted that we should buy as many big ticket items that we needed or planned to do in 2009/10 with much spent in Nov/Ded 2008.

We did that. At first my wife held back, and after she saw/heard/read where the bailout money was going, she got into the game. We “front” loaded or bought and stored 2009 birthday presents for our family members.

Fannie & Freddie were designed to be a start on back door reparations. At the best, they were bad business, forcing (starting with Carter) an entity (banks and loan establishments) to lend to people who didn’t qualify in the first place. So, “Bush” forever gets the blame for it, and the “minorities” get free houses, and the fact that the Republicans tried to get Dodd, Frank and Pelosi to vote to deal with that looming problem today means nothing. So, what do they do? - put the CAUSE of this debacle in charge of FIXING it. That’ll do it.

The FBI and the Justice Dept. could have made a few examples of people and that would have done a lot to curb the fraud.

I understand the priority was anti-terrorism that needed to be addressed but a few public executions of sorts would have sent the market a loud message.

In an odd way, I beg to differ, they may be irrelevant at the moment, but they don’t have to be.

Look at the democrats over the past years. They were basically irrelevant, but they made themselves relevant. Relevant enough to win.

Gop needs to get tough, ignore the trash talk for not keeling on Porkulus and stay focused on taking every moment possible to point out the bad promises and failure of the democrats.

Tough job because you can’t let up one minute. That is what they did. Yes, the party in power is going to squeal, but that only makes you get tougher.

This election would have been tough for almost any republican, But McCain didn't lose the election because conservatives decided to not to vote. Sarah Palin brought conservatives and fence sitters out by the millions.
Putting Sarah on the ticket gave him an unexpected and surprising shot at winning but his own character cancelled that out.

He was a lousy candidate who seemed to get less rational the closer he got to election and showed an uncanny ability to make the wrong choice every time he was presented with an opportunity.

Not to mention that much of the country had been turned off on republicans because of their bad governance and was on their knees for Obama.
Couple that with the media's enmity for republicans and adulation for Obama, and the left’s manipulation of financial markets to precipitate a crisis just before the election and it is a wonder McCain/Palin didn't do much worse.

Everyone was waiting for a November surprise from the left - something like a hidden girlfriend, alcoholism, cheating in college, etc. No one expected they would try to destroy the economy just to win an election. Obama would have won anyway but they weren't taking any chances.

The left would rather see America destroyed than lose power in Washington. It will take a strong opposition candidate who offers a clear choice to stand any chance of winning in the foreseeable future.

word from another thread this week is that large retailers are emptying their inventory of ammo, especially handgun ammo. Speculation is they are afraid to be stuck with inventory they can’t sell if Obama trys some kind of executive order.

This observation, with some states trying to get the ammo serial numbering law, they may be gearing up to support that law and refraining from purchasing.

I was in wal mart the other day buying some turkey ammo and someone asked about some handgun ammo. Clerk said they were out. Didn’t know when they would gt more. But if he had ammo he would be selling the heck out of it.

I don’t know if wal mart has been tipped of something in the pipeline we the people aren’t being told. But like you say, we should be very concerned.
At the gun show a couple weeks ago they were selling out of many kinds of ammo. People are hoarding ammo. Maybe they consider it a good investment, like me.

The speed the democRats are trying to push these so called stimulus bills through makes it very likely that some kind of gun law could be slipped in. Those commies can’t be trusted. Period!

The minority party that lost its ability to play due to its record and its blessing by the voters simply has to know their place. I think the Dems acted like bitches for the time that the Repubs ruled the roost but conduct aside, elections have consequences and one of them is that the other party calls the shots when you lose.

Whoever said the Dems aren't or can't call the shots? That's a complete non-issue.

If by 'knowing their place' you mean Republicans have to just sit there, why don't we just have a nationwide party election--whichever party wins, that party's representative goes to Washington?

I don't understand what kind of behavior you want from them. Obama's comment was a childish response to the other party daring to voice an opinion in a representative republic. He needs to learn how this government functions--and apparently he's not the only one.

Thanks for the feedback. I was back in our local Walmart yesterday, and their defensive ammo (under lock and key) was even lower in inventory. An asst. store manager was taking inventory with one of their radar type radar pistols.

I asked him about the status and possible new inventory. He said that he heard that they should get the new inventory this Sun/Mon and it should be on the shelf Mon or Tues.

I told him that we would be out of town next week, and asked him if they would still have inventory the week after.

His answer was interesting. He told me, “You might want to check out a Walmart close to where we would be at next week!”

He expected demand to be great from employees like himself, he is an Army Vet with Iraq service and others like me.

whining that they are being shut out is pathetic. When you lose and lose big you don’t get to expect much in the policy arena. However, standing up and offering a clearly better plan while telling the American people what isn’t right or workable under the Dems’ proposals is what they should be doing. I am seeing some spine develop on the part of the Repubs so that’s a good step.
