(Michigan's Lapeer) County jobless rate hits 12.7%(Some are even worse)
The County Press ^ | Sunday, February 1, 2009 | JEFFREY HOGAN

On Thursday, the DELEG released the jobless rates for the state's 83 counties, and the numbers continue to shoot higher and higher. The unemployment rate increased in every county in the state.

TOPICS: News/Current Events; US: Michigan
KEYWORDS: bluestates; granholm; jobless; layoffs; mi; michigan; unemployment
In Sanilac County the jobless rate jumped to 15.5%, in Tuscola County 13.7% of the workforce was out of a job, 13.5% in St. Clair County, 12.3% in Genesee County, 10.9% in Macomb County, and 8.6% in Oakland County.

Elsewhere in the region, Huron County recorded a jobless rate of 12.4%, Saginaw County 10.4%, while to the south in Wayne County the unemployment rate in December was 11.7%.

The state's lowest unemployment rate for December was in Washtenaw County (Ann Arbor) with 6.9%, while Mackinac County in the Upper Peninsula had the highest jobless rate with 24.2%.

In December, around three-quarters of Michigan's counties (63) reported jobless rates of 10% or above.

While McCormick and the more than 4,650 other Lapeer County residents that are out of work ponder their futures and do what they can to pay the bills, a leading state economist told the WJR-AM 760 radio audience Wednesday morning that "the worst is unfortunately probably still yet to come." He said the state may hit 12% unemployment in January.

It’s like the guy poking a finger in his eye and bitching about how much it hurts. Keep voting in Democrats and it will only get worse.

How much longer before the people of Michigan realize that everywhere DemocRats are elected in abundance and their policies are enacted, this is the result? Michigan, New York, California, Massachusetts, the list goes on and on.....Decades of DemocRat control has reduced all these states to basket cases....

Granholm’s fault!

Maybe...and the City of Detroit sucking off funds from outstate.

Washtenaw County is a fat nest of Liberals, Greenies and university populations. No wonder it has such a good employment rate.

The Democrats have ruled Pittsburgh for the last 85 years. If the Democrats had the right answer, Pittsburgh, PA would be a paradise. It instead reminds me of a third world city.

My little sister lives and works in downtown Lapeer, and I can guarantee that things are going to get much worse in Lapeer county before they get any better.

I hope the governor has shovel ready projects to snap into action. She should pass an emergency jobs order to shovel snow from Walmart parking lots so consumers can get there to buy stuff

And this doesn’t count all the laid off part-timers who can’t collect unemployment.

I’d guess Michigan’s unemployment is well over 20%. Large swaths of the state look like movie sets for a depression-era movie, including entire downtowns boarded up and countless for sale signs. And the workers drive around in old, rusted clunkers while the bureaucrats and fat politician pigs own shiney new SUVs and pick-ups.

I’m predicting that the bloated overlord political class will start taking hard hits this summer.

I'm trying to think of a ladylike way to say that the Grandmole must have plenty of shovels on hand so as to keep shoveling what she has been shoveling.

To the people of Michigan - Welcome to your Democratic Party paradise. How’s it working out for you?

And just so you don’t think me heartless, here is a piece of advice. Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps, just perhaps, you may be getting the message.

“I voted for Barack Obama because I wanted a change, but this wasn’t the kind of change I had in mind.”

It's that old joke about the WWII German army after months of being bogged down in Russia:

The Oberleutnant assembles the troops and tells them, “Today, I have goot news and bad news!”
A disheveled Scutze raises his hand and asks, “Herr Oberleutnant vat is da goot news?”
To which the officer replies, “Today, after so many veeks, vee are at last going to have a change of undervear!”
The men are ecstatic, shouting, hugging, cheering, slapping each other on the back.
And then, again, the meek Scutze raises his hand, “Herr Oberleutnant, but there is the bad news, too, ja?
The celebration goes silent.
“Vell, ja. Fritz? You change vit Kempler; Kempler, you change vit Krauss; Krauss, you change vit. . . .”

While MI has a genuine leadership problem, it has a longstanding and much bigger problem with “follower-ship.” Too many generations of learned helplessness and dependency have crippled the state psychologically. It is a place where things happen to you, not for or because of you. No empowerment; all victim mentality.

Generations of kids were raised to believe that all they had to do was get that plum job working at (insert factory of choice) and they'd be set for life: protection from "The Union," high wages, insurance, pension. When that version of Camelot crumbled, it was replaced by “the government” and its unemployment insurance, COBRA, and free cheese. Anyone who wants to see what this country will look like when 0blamus and crew are done need only take a drive through Lower Michigan.

The old state motto was “Winter Water Wonderland.” New motto? “Winter, water, wonder how long before the place is officially declared America's first third-world state?”

“Change we can believe in?” Does feeling a nickel and a dime rubbing against each other in an otherwise empty pocket work as a concrete example of change we can not only believe in but experience firsthand?

"Buyer's remorse? I bought it; it wasn't what I thought it was; I tried to return it but the store had gone out of business."

The policies that destroyed this country are being practiced on a national level...trade, CEO banker greed...thus the rest of the country will soon catch up. This is not red/blue...it’s about trade and a manipulated market that was never really free.

According to Obama, labor unions are the solution to our economic problems. Doesn’t seem to be working in Michigan, though.

At least Michigan lets laid off employees file online and by phone, so that they can avoid burning gas and causing more Global Warming.

“At least Michigan lets laid off employees file online and by phone, so that they can avoid burning gas and causing more Global Warming.”

That is IF you can get through. It’s taking days in most cases to get an answer either by phone or online to file for unemployment, friends of mine can attest to.

SOME of us here have tried to vote in more conservative leadership, but we’re far outnumbered by the liberal sheeple. It’s not just the winter making it feel like we’re in the wastelands of Siberia!!!
