Evidently he was interviewed, and they tried to corner him on Limbaugh. Steele incorporated the First Amendment into his reply, deflecting the attempt to pigeon hole him. He thinks well on his feet, and he will do right by us in this position. That’s my take on it.

He calls himself what ever is expedient. He has run as a Democrat; as a Republican, and as a populist.

AFAIK, everytime he has run as a Republican, the party has supported and endorsed the other Republican(s) in the race against him.

He can register and call himself what ever he wants, but that doesn’t mean he is claimed by the various parties.

"He further referred to Steele as "Obama Jr." and a "servile dog of Israel."

Not really. Davy and Cynthia McKinney should hook-up, they can make some really hot anti-Semite love together.

Well, well, well... white supremacist David Duke utterly hates the new chairman of the RNC. Where are all the obnoxious liberal Democrats who constantly remind America that David Duke ran as a Republican (while conveniently ignoring that he was ALSO ran as a RAT in the past) to comment on this one?

The RATs also seem to miss the point that no Republican will be caught dead endorsing former KKK leader Duke, whereas RATs have no problem endorsing former KKK Klegal Byrd every time he runs for office.

Seems "Republican" David Duke is none too fond of the GOP these days. Someone needs to forward this to the RATs who constantly hit us over the with Duke. They must be all warm and fuzzy inside knowing they share the same feelings about the chairman of the RNC that Duke does.

I agree that Steele was not my first choice or even my second, but his election IS a positive change for the GOP. Any outcome that did not result in Mike Duncan being reelected or Saul Anuzis (who has been an utter failure as Michigan GOP Chairman given the fact the RATs have run the state in the ground and he can't get any mileage out of that) is good for the party. I feel more optimistic going into 2010 and 2014 with Steele at the helm. His initial comments saying "bipartisanship is overrated" and hailing every Republican voting down Obama's stimulus are welcome, as are his plans to go toe-to-toe with Obama and work to repeal McCain-Feingold and that his biggest priority right now is to take back NY's 20th District.

Yes Steele is too cozy with the status quo and has unfortunately backed RINOs in the past, but the freepers claiming that Steele was the most liberal person the GOP could have chosen or that Steele is a "moderate" who is pro-abortion and anti-gun are nuts. Steele was a bit nuanced on these issues when ran for the U.S. Senate in ultra-RAT Maryland, but he is a solid conservative.

And no, Steele is not an "affirmative action" pick because Steele is well qualified for the job and has a record of leadership. Affirmation Action means someone gets the job over more qualified applicants because of their skin color, and while this was certainly true of the last RNC Chariman (Mel Martinez, who is a mediocre Bush-butt kisser who was in over his head as both Senator and RNC Chairman), is it not true of Steele -- who worked his way up through the party and has a great record. I'm sure the Dems will spin this as Steel being chosen so the GOP could have a black guy go up against another black guy. It's unfortunate it took this long for the GOP to name a black chairman (the GOP should have made history as the first party with a black chairman as they have made history in most other appointed posts), and yes the bad timing makes it look like desperation on the GOP's part -- but it's overdue and Steele was a top choice for the job long before Obama even announced for President.

Don’t loose sight of Steele’s job here. He won’t be voting on one piece of legislation. What folks are trying to infer is that Steele will put a litmus test on Conservative candidates and not support them if they are for gun rights, the death penalty, and oppose affirmative action. He isn’t going to do that.

He will be supporting Conservative candidates across this nation, and many of them will be more solid than he on those issues. He is going to be and administrator, not a gatekeeper.

The funny thing is, a Democrat wouldn’t have the slightest idea what you were talking about, if they read your comment. And yet, they voted for Obama for no other reason that he was black, and not a White Republican.

I am not sold on him although I do not dislike Mr. Steele. I cannot recall the exact interview he gave but IMHO he came off somewhere in the squishy middle. Let’s hope he is more conservative than that impression but I will wait to see what he does.

“Duke described those who supported the move as “traitorous,” and cited Steele's positions on gun control, affirmative action and the death penalty in a sometimes rambling condemnation posted on his personal Web site. “

Well, where does Steele stand on GUN CONTROL?

Where does Steele stand on AFFIRMATIVE ACTION?

Where does Steele stand on the DEATH PENALTY?

I think you will find that he is

FOR more GUN CONTROL

FOR AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

AGAINST the DEATH PENALTY.

It is unfortunate that the GOP is choosing SKIN COLOR

OVER conservative ideology.

It's too bad this Duke guy is not expressing himself well. In other words Steele is another RHINO. He's like Powell. Steele is like J.C. Watts. The GOP has earned the label of being the “STUPID PARTY”.

McPain was another RHINO and so is Steele.

He is right about both but how he expresses himself undoes the truth he is saying. The GOP is using RACE to further RHINO ideology. It’s insanity.

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay launches new web site

By Jim Kouri

Conservative icon Tom Delay and TCV Media CEO Nathan Tabor announced the launching of DeLay’s new web site TomDeLay.com. The unveiling of the new web site coincides with the release of the former Republican lawmaker’s new book, No Retreat, No Surrender: One American’s Fight.

DeLay’s new Internet home is a state-of-the-art creation from political consultant and new media enthusiast, Nathan Tabor, himself a congressional candidate in his home state of North Carolina.

DeLay is the former House Majority Leader, the second ranking leader in the United States House of Representatives. He was responsible for developing the issues and policies that formed the Republican agenda. DeLay set the legislative schedule by selecting which bills the House would consider and the timing of their consideration.

Following the historic Republican victory of 1994 — a direct result of the legendary Contract with America — DeLay was elected whip by the new GOP majority. Widely credited with revolutionizing the office, DeLay has been called the most effective whip in the history of the House of Representatives. He became known as The Hammer by friend and foe alike.

During the eight years he counted votes, DeLay regularly overcame daunting odds to deliver victory after victory for House Republicans. Despite the limitations imposed by small majorities from 1999-2002, DeLay worked the House floor with consummate skill and often found a way to win votes others thought lost.

DeLay called his method “growing the vote,” and he used a sophisticated outreach effort to establish trust and build solid relationships with Republican members. In this way, their concerns could be resolved before a bill reached the House floor for a vote. This method produced the successful passage of landmark legislation including the Contract with America, Normal Trade Relations with China, welfare reform, Trade Promotion Authority, the Balanced Budget Act, and all the key elements of the Bush agenda, including the largest tax relief measure in a generation.

Before his election as majority whip and then leader, DeLay served as chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee, Republican Conference secretary, and deputy whip. Long considered a leading voice on domestic policies, Majority Leader DeLay increasingly asserted leadership on international affairs. Two dominant principles shaped his response to foreign policy questions: DeLay believes the United States must strongly support democratic allies who share our commitment to liberty, like Israel and Taiwan, while aggressively promoting the expansion of freedom to closed societies; and he believes tyrants and rogue regimes must be confronted before they harm American interests. In his view, the price of freedom remains an active opposition to terror and tyranny.

A native Texan, Tom DeLay was born along the banks of the Rio Grande River in the historic border city of Laredo on April 8, 1947. During his childhood, the DeLay family lived in South America for a number of years. His father’s career in the oil and gas industry required several job postings to Venezuela’s rural interior, and the DeLay family made their home in small towns near the oil fields.

DeLay’s years in Venezuela were a formative political experience. His family lived through the turbulence and uncertainty of three revolutions. Two of these events were violent, and neighboring townspeople died at the hands of marauding revolutionaries. DeLay points to this early exposure to political violence as the source of his lifelong “passion for freedom.”

DeLay graduated from the University of Houston in 1970 with a degree in biology. Shortly afterwards, DeLay opened and operated a successful small business in Houston.

The demands of attracting customers and running his business and the responsibility of making payroll for his employees every month convinced DeLay that the primary impediment to economic growth stems from the twin burdens of excessive taxation and unneeded regulation. He soon grew to appreciate the tremendous costs imposed on small businesses by state and federal regulations. The need to lower these burdens sparked his involvement in the political process.

During a Fort Bend County Republican Committee meeting in 1978, a party official suggested that DeLay run for an open Texas State House seat that had never before elected a Republican. Excited by the prospect of lowering taxes and excess regulations, DeLay rolled up his sleeves and impressed enough voters to win the election. After serving in Austin for six years, he succeeded in becoming the first Republican Fort Bend County ever elected to the United States Congress.

Over the course of his congressional career, DeLay has built a voting record that consistently supports limited, constitutional government, peace through strength, lower taxes, and the sanctity of life.

Delay and his wife Christine share a deep interest in the circumstances facing abused and neglected children. They got involved with children’s issues after Christine DeLay, a teacher, began volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in foster care. Eventually, the DeLays became foster parents themselves. Today, they are outspoken advocates in favor of reforming the present foster care system by making the child’s best interest the paramount concern.

Although no longer seeking elected office, Tom DeLay’s political career is far from over. Like his colleague former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, DeLay still possesses an acute belief in conservative principles and he intends to continue making a significant impact on the US political landscape.

Thank you David Duke. You have successfully drove more people into the Republican Party. That should be a slap in your demonic face.

I know what a RINO (Republican In Name Only) is, but I'm not sure what a "RHINO" is. Perhaps you can tell me what the "H" stands for, or perhaps it's a shortened variation of Rhinoceros.

And you seem to be confusing Michael Steele with Mel Martinez. Martinez is both an affirmation-action pick and a RINO. Steele is neither. He is well qualified for the job with a record of leadership, and a solid conservative. I see no simularities between him and a centrist lightweight like Powell.

WaPo interviewed him??? If they did, there is no way they will print what he said.

They will if he is denouncing any Republicans and/or portray him as a die hard Republican

Me Too. I wish Tom was sitting in that oval office instead of the thing that is there now.

We could face anything and get through it, come hell or high water.

Right now we are a ship with nobody to steer it. Soon we will be aground and watch the finger pointing begin.Thats when the thing and his fascist program will be revealed for all to see. What do we do then? That is the question.

I give the thing about 16 months , tops, before his mask will fall and we get to see what desperate ugly truly is.
