Former Detroit mayor Kilpatrick released from jail

DETROIT (AP) - Kwame Kilpatrick regained his freedom early Tuesday morning, emerging from jail after a 99-day sentence and stepping back onto the streets of the city he once ruled as mayor.

The 38-year-old Kilpatrick, about 25 pounds lighter than when he entered jail at the end of October, left the downtown Detroit facility wearing a dark suit just after 12:30 a.m.

On the sidewalk, Kilpatrick stood for a long moment amid bright television camera lights, a crush of awaiting reporters and swirling snowflakes, smiling occasionally to those in the crowd who called his name and shouted: "We love you, Kwame! Detroit loves you, baby!"

Flanked by a number of men, several dressed in fedoras and long coats, Kilpatrick then was rushed to a waiting blue Chevrolet Suburban. The Democrat waved from behind tinted windows as he was whisked away as part of a multi-vehicle caravan.

Kilpatrick made no statements to the media during his release, upon the orders of new defense attorney Willie E. Gary.

Out just in time to be a part of Obama’s team.

You're not too far off. It's only a matter of time before we learn that he took bribes from Synagro...and didn't pay taxes on them.

Good for your Dad and likewise everyone else who left.
I was the last of my Family to leave Dearborn in 1979.
I remember those Riots well, - our City Mayor had water-cooled machine guns set up in Garbage trucks with the side doors open. “I remember the newspaper quote from the Mayor...”If they come this way ....start shooting., “I’ll take care of the paperwork””.

Detroit was a great town with beautiful Historic buildings and Churches now,......all a wasteland.

Time was that the Ford Rouge employed over 110,000 people.

I went last summer to a Rouge Plant tour with my brother and sister when we did a Family Reunion. It’s so sad, - all my relatives have left Detroit Metro Area.

Time was.........If you could’t get a job in Detroit....than you just couldn’t get a job period. Too bad the Libs have ruined one of the greatest cities of all time.

Years ago, wife and I and another couple sailed on an Interlake steamer from Two Harbors to Rouge Steel. It was 4th of July weekend but still chilly out on the big lake but Interlake treated us to more food and drink than we could consume.
We arrived at Rouge the morning of the third day and asked Ford security to call us a cab to the airport.
The cabby showed up and as he opened the trunk for our bags, I noticed he had a gigantic Philippine bolo knife strapped to his leg.
"Why the big knife ?" I asked.
"They took my gun permit after the last cab-jacking," was his reply...

Now he can run for governor and be elected by the “battered vote syndrome” sufferers in Michigan.

Kwame petitioned today to be allowed to move to Texas to accept a job from Covisant, a division of Compuware. Peter Karmanos hired him on the same day he announced the layoff of 200 service workers from Compuware in Detroit. This guy must really have some magic to mesmorize a corp exec like this, or___________.

Fill in the blank
