Too bad the barrel was welded shut.
The kids in these cases should go after the principal first, then the vice principal and so on down. The bullies should get theirs only if there are enough bullets left and the police have not yet arrived.
Many people today are so ignorant of our country that they can't conceive of such a thing, nor of the much lower crime rates we had. :-(
IMO the kid should not be charged with anything. The school ought to be put through a comprehensive anti-bullying program instead.
IMHO, if the kid had healthy exposure to firearms, rather than the repressed approach of Canada—or modern America, then he’d know better than to treat the firearm so lightly, threatening like that.
The kid should be given very stern discussion on firearms and how not to use them, but yes, the school needs to address root cause.
Man, when I was in High School, late 60s, I was the Brigade armorer for the better part of three years. I had about 30 .22cal rifles, mostly Wichester 52Cs and Ds, with a few Remington 513Ts. At one time we had 40 operable M1 Garands but they were traded for demilled ‘03 Springfields. Any firearms that were brought to school were under my care.
At various times I had SKSs, a BAR, M1 Thompson and M60 NG as well as various sporting firearms.
Ah those were the days

How about we ban government schools?

I agree. When I was reading this story I thought to myself “what this kid has done is perfectly normal. Maybe not quite appropriate, but normal.”
Wind the clock forward ten years, and move this kid from Ontario to Philadelphia, and from the classroom to a back alley.
Under those cicumstances, if he were being “bullied” or assaulted and he pulled a gun, it would be called “self-defense” and, depending on context, he may even be justified in using it.
He is getting the wrong message by being punished for defending himself. And his bullies are, too: I bet they get off scott-free.
(They’ll grow up to be tomorrow’s CEOs. I am constantly amazed by the number of sociopaths I meet in business... well, maybe I’m not so amazed. This is where they begin, as classroom bullies.)
Wow.
After my last post, I had gone into the other room and was thinking about just this, laughing a dark laugh in retrospect at some of the truly sick things that I've endured from bosses or have seen in others.
I'm not anti-business, but the commonly held idea of the businessman as the paragon of virtue and the epitome of American ideals is often pretty far off the mark...and I'm not surprised that all of these factors might lead to workplace violence being more common.
re: The barrel had been welded shut.
I hate to be nit picker but that’s no longer a firearm, is it? It’s a club, perhaps a hammer, a movie prop, but it’s not a firearm.
It also said the object-formerly-know-as-a-gun was legally registered. Why would that be necessary.
I am not defending what the kid did. Purely foolish, although in his mind probably a good idea. I am lamenting the death of common sense.
Instead of examining how the schools are run, the response will be to ban adults from owning knives and already-welded and useless guns.
88. (a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years; or(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

heaven forbid that there should be a complete investigation into the actions of the juvenile punks who did the bullying, likely the offspring of leading democrat citizens of the community who consider certain segments of the community to be nothing but livestock. (some of the animals are more equal than the other animals, doncha know.)
IMHO
You know this us public school, right?
This is what happens when somebody is bullied in a public school: The bully and the victim are both pulled in. The bully is given a 3 day suspension(Which to him, is just a vacation from school). The victim is too. The victim is then told to shut up and not do anything. The cops in the schools don’t really care about anything, neither do the faculty. They just don’t want the school to look bad.
This is yet another reason why you should support vouchers for private schools instead of this idiotic public school system. A company that has to compete for money always will make sure that the business is as safe for its consumers as possible, or else they’ll face being run out of business.

(grin!) I took a huge step away from the corporate environment a number of years ago, just to give myself a rest from these maladjusted people.
The money is good in the corporate environment, but strangely I don’t miss the corporate sociopaths. At all.
