A beaming Dr. Karen Mapes appeared on "Larry King Live" this week to discuss the epic birth of octuplets she supervised at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Bellflower, but the ticker at the bottom of the screen said it all: "OCTUPLETS OUTRAGE."
The story of Whittier mom Nadya Suleman has quickly turned from medical miracle to public fury -- so much so that Suleman herself complained in an interview that aired Friday on NBC's "Today" show that society is unfairly judging her.

Suleman is an unemployed graduate student, lives with her parents and already had six children under the age of 8. She has become a lightning rod for criticism for the nation's healthcare woes, the economic crisis and the medical ethics of in vitro fertilization.

Kaiser declined to say how much Suleman's care is costing. According to records from the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, the average charge for a cesarean section with complications is $7,095 per day.
Suleman's care, though, goes far beyond even the scale for complicated deliveries, with 46 doctors, nurses and assistants in the delivery room. The average daily charge for one baby with "significant problems" is $3,063. And the average charge per day for one postpartum stay without an operating procedure is $3,029.
Using this data as a conservative estimate, the 12-day-old octuplets have already racked up nearly $300,000 in charges. Suleman was hospitalized for more than 9 weeks.

Do I agree with what she did ? No. Was she within her rights to do so? Yes. I wish the best for her and her children.
I didn’t hear anyone say she had no right to do this but how well will the babies be raised? when will dhs investigate?
The public is judging her because the public will be expected to support those children
so sad, too bad
This baby factory is an obamma dream. Poor unmarried trash has oodles of kids she can’t afford with NO father figure.
These are and will always be welfare babies on the public dole forever.
Translation: "It's all about me, ME, ME!, MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!"
Saw Geraldo expressing his disgust with this on Fox and Friends yesterday, about how the hospital and taxpayers will pick up the bill. Yet he and his lib friends conveniently ignore all the illegal aliens that are sucking up taxpayer dollars as well.
Did anyone see this interview? I did and this woman has the fattest lips I have ever seen, fatter even than Angelina Jolie. She has a pretty face but the lips look injected.
We’re probably paying for her lips too.
And, let me guess, she does not have private insurance?
..that sort of thing happens when you hire two publicity managers
No, she was NOT within her rights to do so. She had the right to do so ONLY if she could support said children within her OWN resources.
She knew that public assistance would step in with the money. She knew her fellow citizens would be forced to support her and her children with the full weight of the law brought to bear.
No one has the right to plan on living on welfare. No one has the right to their neighbor's wealth.
I’ve heard her referred to as “OctoPussy”.
I am disgusted by her, her choices and those who enabled her to create this situation, but I can see she has problems way beyond how to care for all those kids. Now she has more children than she can love and care for as well as her underlying emotional problems she hasn’t yet begun to deal with. Sad, pathetic girl.
Show me the law that states how many kids you can have and get back to me.
That’s what I thought.
My first question to her would be “Why haven’t you lost all that extra weight yet? How do you ever expect to get octuplets again, looking like this?” :O)
