Kadima wins elections, but will it form the next government? Kadima and its Chairwoman, Tzipi Livni, are the big winners of the 2009 general elections, according to a Rafi Smith exit poll commissioned by Ynet, with Likud finishing a disappointing 2nd.

Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu delivered at crunch time to become Israel's third-largest party, while Ehud Barak's Labor party sustained a harsh blow. Exit polls by Israel's major television channels showed similar results

Also, military votes aren’t in the exit polls, and they tend to the right.

It's way too soon to call this a loss for Netanyahu - i.e. Israeli politics, and their basis used for forming a ruling gov’t when their is no clear majority (as is the apparent case here) actually appears at this time to give Bebe a slight advantage to being able to up with a right wing ruling coalition

I take it Kadima is their lib party?

See post 71. Kadima is centrist, a breakaway from Likud under Sharon, Labor is Israel's old traditional left. And disappearing rapidly.

Thanks.

Israel has a Parliamentary system, and the winner will have to bring along a coalition to reach 61 votes.

This will likely be Netanyahu. The right wing block has increased in size tom 62-64. I believe the count is now Livni 28, Bibi 36.

Michael Medved is reporting that Israeli president Shimon Peres, will likely ask Netanyahu to form the next government, because he is obligated by law to pick Bibi because he is the one most likely to be able to form a government.

The logical extention [sic] of your foolish misogynist thinking is a Taliban-like state. Sounds like you would be fine with the Taliban in charge.

Sadly, that knee-jerk response is all too typical of women conditioned to assert some semblance of masculinity.

Truthfully, I'd be fine with men such as Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Jay, and Webster in charge. Apparently, you might wish to think they were "foolish misogynists" too.

Heard the same thing. Didn't catch the name of the Israeli political "insider" he was talking to, but they are saying that it looks good for Netanyahu. That the left looks to have suffered a big loss.

I don’t think he’s legally obligated, but that’s what he’s charged with making his decision on, after polling the heads of the various parties. The process will go on for awhile, but I think it looks very good for Netanyahu.

Centerist. It is more conservative than the Labor Party (liberal) and Meretz (far left), but more liberal than Likud (conservative) and Yisrael Beiteinu (far right).

Israeli politics is split between numerous parties; no one party ever wins a majority, so every government is a coalition.

There is nothing knee jerk or typical about this woman, longtime FReeper and Conservative. With all due respect, You are nuts!

Maybe you should take this up with all the great conservative women here at FR, or with your wife.

Why do I question whether you have one?

Thanks. I got into the car disheartened on my ride home. I felt better by the time I arrived. They seemed very encouraging. I hope they're right.

His reports are very encouraging. He does state, however, that Israel, even with Bibi at the head, will be under tremendous pressure from the US ... BHO and Hillary, as well as most European leaders.

I’m hoping that Sarko will live up to his promises of total support for a strong Israel as a Jewish State with its capital in Jerusalem.

Now is the time for all of us, Christians and Jews alike, to pray for Israel.

How do Peres & Bibi get along, anyone know? Peres might be likely to go with a man at the top instead of a woman. (?)

There is nothing knee jerk or typical about this woman

It was your reply, not you, which I deemed knee-jerk and typical. Even if you gave it a lot of thought, there is no denying it is typical; whenever the subject comes up, every liberal and perhaps 2/3 of otherwise conservative women defensively bare their claws. Of course, that's how our modern society has conditioned—even requires—the "liberated" woman to react to such an idea.

Sure, you might be a "longtime FReeper and Conservative" but, as with Golda Meir, you're exceptional. Women, by and large, tend to prefer big government (due in no small part to men shirking their God-given roles and responsibilities but, I digress). There's no disputing the facts. The gender gap is not absolute but, it is absolutely real.

With all due respect, You are nuts!

What about Washington, et. al.... Were they also "nuts"?

Maybe you should take this up with all the great conservative women here at FR, or with your wife. Why do I question whether you have one?

Why, indeed. My one and only wife of these nearly 20 years is a beautiful, noble, staunchly conservative and—above all else—godly (Proverbs 31) woman, thank you very much. Obviously, I am richly blessed. Although she's always insisting she's the one who's blessed, I'm not buying it (and, unless I'm wrong, you're not, either ;O).
