Down syndrome a modern-day death sentence
Desert News ^ | 2/15/09 | Joseph A. Cannon

Claire will never read these words. But at least she is alive and brings joy to her many friends and family members. You see, Claire is a survivor. She survived one of the most ruthlessly effective extermination programs in modern times.

Claire has Down syndrome.

Most of her Down syndrome brothers and sisters never got to be born. In the United States, more than 90 percent of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted. (In some other countries this number reaches 95 percent.) But apparently this isn't enough for those who would eradicate these defective persons. The problem is that the current methods for diagnosing the Down defect are ultrasound, biochemical exams or amniocentesis. But amniocentesis is expensive, invasive and potentially harmful to mothers and ultrasound may not be accurate.

"Like many," notes Libertarian commentator Nicholas Provenzo, "I am troubled by the implications of . . . Sarah Palin's decision to knowingly give birth to a child disabled with Down syndrome. Given that Palin's decision is being celebrated in some quarters, it is crucial to reaffirm the morality of aborting a fetus diagnosed with Down syndrome." This is necessary, Provenzo informs us, "because a person afflicted with Down syndrome is only capable of being marginally productive."

That is sick.

And there will be more articles like this because of the left’s fear of Sarah Palin’s popularity.

You are quite correct. A person's worth comes not from his or her productivity but is intrinsic in his or her humanity. As a Lutheran Missouri Synod member, I say Christ died for all people, not caring about status or wealth or productivity, but rather their humanity He shared.

I hope that no one takes Provenzo seriously.

“because a person afflicted with Down syndrome is only capable of being marginally productive.”

I know lots of “normal” people who are only marginally productive, and several who are totally unproductive. Matter of fact, our prisons, jails, and treatment centers of all kinds are filled to overflowing with them, and I’m betting that few of them have Down Syndrome.

“Marginally Productive”????

Yeah, sounds like something right out of ‘!984” and other stories with a similar story line. Reality trumps (Science) Fiction.

“Libertarian commentator Nicholas Provenzo” can kiss my white a$$.

Have posted this before, but it’s worth repeating...my cousin with Down was the coolest little kid and he’s grown into the coolest man. Love him.

“This is necessary, Provenzo informs us, “because a person afflicted with Down syndrome is only capable of being marginally productive.”

My youngest son was born with Down Syndrome 26 years and a week ago. Everything about our lives as individuals and as a family changed because of him. The life of our parish community changed and it was and is all for the better. He is the greatest blessing God has given us, though when he was born I thought we had been cursed.

His life has shown us and the community around us that not everyone is smart and successful and physically and mentally powerful and that’s just fine, because the love of God shines out through him!

It is just a prelude to what the new (anti-)American Progressives has in store for this population. After the diseased Conservatives are dealt with and their power is consolidated absolutely, they will move on to the efficiencies of tyranny. Old people. Old people, despite the fact they are the ones that actually helped them to power, are contradictory to utopian efficiency. They hoard wealth that could be redistributed, they get sick and are extremely costly to treat, yet the cost-to-benefit ratio of the treatment doesn't yield that many vote-years. It is more efficient to pander to and dote over the younger cattle.

When the need to vote is finally unnecessary, the real thinning begins: religion, depravity, intelligence -- free thinkers. It's all about power; ultimately it's about maximum power at least cost - more for the powerati.

I am sure our new nationalized healthcare system will de-prioritize any child already born with Downs, so those that are not aborted don’t live long, anyway.

It’s more efficient that way.

This is disturbingly similar to the Nazi’s useless eaters program.

As recent financial events have shown, a great many highly intelligent and educated people, many of them liberals, are not just “marginally productive,” they are highly “negatively productive.”

If we must get rid of people, I propose them.

Not similar. Identical.

These children are angels sent from God to show us how wonderful they are..they smile and never show us the mean side of them always up and happy..And don’t tell me these angels can’t learn they can and they can teach us about unconditional love..My daughter worked for MHMR for a few years while in school..So I got to meet several of these angels..Shame on the people that kill them and the people that make fun of them..I think to look into the eyes of these precious one is to look into the eyes of God...

Right here:

"60,000 Reichsmarks - the sum this hereditary defective costs the people's community over his lifetime.

Comrades of the people -- this is YOUR money.

Read "A New People" - the monthly publication of the Race-Politics Council of the NSDAP [National Socialist German Workers Party - yes, the Nazis.]

I don't know who this libertarian guy quoted is, but if sounded this much like a Nazi, I would be very worried about my moral position and the state of my immortal soul.

Like many...still...I find Nick Provenzo’s thinking creepier than Sarah Palin’s choice to keep and raise Trig. As noted upthread, his position has historical precedent from which a libertarian in particular should be running away screaming in horror.
