If we can get some real conservatives to run in the Northeast and New England, that would be great. At least the “moderate” Republicans caucus with the rest of the GOP.

If a real conservative ran he/she could be defeated with the open primary idiocy

Had the GOP’s candidate been elected President, it would have been the Dem oarty that would be fracturing right now.

In spite of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, the GOP is bound and determined to draw the wrong lesson from the last two election cycles and to repeat the insanity of putting up marginally Republican candidates.

I cannot abide much more of this rampant stupidity.

Pataki didn't immediately respond to a request for comment at his law office.

Out to lunch.

They endorse anyone who isn’t in favor of partial-birth abortion. That’s where they draw the line.

First of all, King is a serious person who takes his job seriously and works hard. Secondly, he is deeply concerned about the security of this country and about our alliance with Israel and was an excellent chair of the Homeland Security committee. The faults that some find with him (impeachment vote, IRA) are long behind us.

I know I will get arguments from friends of other candidates. That's what always happens on FR when you try to say something good about a politician. But I have heard both men speak many times, and it's like T. rex as opposed to a stuffed bunny.

Let’s see:

the NY governor whose years in office included the near demise of the GOP in the state (in favor of his crony friends from both parties instead)

is now trotted out by a completely out-of-touch GOP U.S. Senate committee;

and the rest of us are supposed to applaud!?!?

Are they nuts????????

Brilliant plan. Bring back the man who almost singlehandedly destroyed the NYS GOP.

For some reason I find Peter King to be the most insufferable Republican out there.

If memory serves me correctly, Pataki retired in part because he didn’t think he could win reelection and in part because the voters had tired of him. Is there any reason to believe this has changed now?

He wasn’t going to win against Spitzer, that was certain. He has a better shot, however, in ‘10 in a Senate race, especially if the battle between Gillibrand and McCarthy gets ugly, neither of whom have ever won statewide.

No one could have beaten Spitzer unfortunately. I don’t know why that scum was ever so popular.

You can debate which is a bigger RINO but Patakai would stand a better chance than King.

NY has closed primaries. I wanted to vote for Thompson in the NY 2008 GOP primary. I had to change my registration 25 days prior to the general election date in Nov 2007. It's one of the few things NY does right.

Considering Obama got 62% of the vote in NY, Pataki is a reasonable choice. If we can imagine him voting against Porkulus, that is as good as we can expect.

The GOP got destroyed in all of these deep blue states, there wasn't one person to blame for each different state. For example, Schwarzenegger presided over the CA GOP demise, but wasn't its cause.

Well, that's it. I can't imagine Pataki voting against Porkulus. He was too much of a "go along to get along" type. IMHO, he would have joined the three Senate RINOs from the Northeast.
