Missing Florida Girl's Family: Pedophile Cousin Took Haleigh Cummings
Fox News ^

Posted on 02/21/2009 7:23:34 PM PST by kcvl

"What we've been told is that he's a sexual pedophile," said Haleigh's mother Crystal Sheffield. The child's grandmother, Teresa Neves, said Croslin described him as a "jerk" and she was worried.

"I couldn't tell you anything about him," a distraught Neves told reporters Friday, adding that she only knew of the cousin by his first name Joe. "I can't tell you how they could have taken her from a family that absolutely adores her."

I saw that too. There is a lot that we probably haven't heard about this ‘family’.

For one thing, could the father be charged with statutory rape for shacking up with that 17 year old?

If that’s the case (I’ve not kept up with this case) and it can be proven that this is the case (not some unverified accusation), then I think the father should first be investigated for involvement in this disappearance and then if possible be punished for giving his daughter a black eye.

Since the daughter is missing (and possibly dead) I doubt the father will be investigated for the child’s possible black eye.

I just did a quick Google. I think that is the age of consent, but there are some exceptions depending on the age of the partner.

The McCanns and all their friends left their kids alone every night of their vacation, but that fact is actually a red herring. Having read everything about the case that has been published in English — some documents are in Portuguese and have not been translated — I believe Madeleine died in some kind of accident and her parents disposed of her body in a panic. The abduction story was a hoax.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that saw it. It was an odd place for a bandaid.

He may be 24 chronologically but he's probably not any "older" than the GF. I doubt they'll charge him but they should. And she isn't old enough or mature enough to care for 2 kids full time.

“Paddle faster, I hear banjo music!” is a popular t-shirt down here.

Age of consent Florida

The age of consent in Florida is 18, but close in age exemptions exist

From what I can see, NOBODY in either extended family has an IQ over 80.

You said — “Then both the father and the cousin must be slaughtered. If I hear of something like this happening where I live, they better hope the cops catch them first.”

That’s why we have a system that people go through, prescribed by our Constitution, in which details are dispassionately examined and the real facts are developed. That’s why we have trials, to protect all parties involved. It would do no good to get the wrong guy and leave the real perpetrator out there, ready to do something like that again.

I remember seeing a tombstone in Tombstone, Arizona, on Boot Hill — which said “Hanged by mistake”... It turned out that a mob chased a guy down and hung him, however, they later found out that they had the wrong guy... ooops...

So, that’s the reason why we have the system that we do...

I think I heard something about the family being investigated by Social Services before. No reason why, though.

You’re quite right but where emotion is involved, common sense is not. And these threads are always emotional.

Well, supposedly the kid did it. It’s not really known for sure. It’s like some defense attorneys say — if you’re sitting in the defense side of the table, you must be guilty or you wouldn’t be there in the first place... LOL...

“Many fathers have hit their girls before. It’s (most of the time) called discipline.”

I’m not digging you on this thread but you have a very good home page and make many, very smart observations on it.

Sometime you should do a vanity post on the general/chat forum and let us discuss your presidential breakdowns, it is darn good, but not perfect. I think that it would be a great thread.

It’s sort of disturbing to me that FReepers would be so eager and quick to abandon the very system that the Constitution gives us, along with the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law (and in many cases, by a jury of one’s peers).

It’s like many are saying — “I’m 100% for the Constitution and all our founding fathers gave us, until I get mad about something...” LOL...

Then *everything* gets thrown “out the window”...

Of course it’s usually better to let the courts determine guilt or innocence. However, we may soon reach the point where the courts will be too corrupt or inept to do this. Then we will have to do our own detective work...and the rest.
