Bill O'Reilly: The End of Obama Mania
Townhall ^ | February 28, 2009 | Bill O'Reilly

Posted on 02/27/2009 9:56:25 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The TV ratings for February have been tabulated, and in the world of cable news there is weeping on the left. Fox News Channel, which is generally tougher on the president, hammered the two networks that most favor President Obama -- CNN and MSNBC. In fact, Fox News was the third-highest rated prime-time cable network in America, behind USA and TNT. CNN was 15th; MSNBC, a dismal 23rd.

Also, unique visitors to the Obama-loving website Daily Kos have declined a whopping 73 percent since last fall -- a disaster. What's going on?

It all has to do with fear. While Obama retains a high approval rating, many Americans are flat-out scared about the economy. The recession is bringing massive pain to America, and responsible citizens want the truth about public policy, not partisan cheerleading.

Thus, many news consumers do not trust news operations and websites that have a vested interest in seeing Obama succeed in the White House. One look at NBC News, for example, and you know the company line is to help Obama, not report the unvarnished truth.

Spinning the economy does not help people whose jobs may be in jeopardy. They need solid information about what is actually happening in order to make difficult decisions on personal spending and, perhaps, seeking new employment in a more secure industry. Self-protection dictates they secure the most reliable sources of information available.

On the other side, Obama bashing doesn't do the folks much good, either. Why waste time on attacks when information is what the folks need? I think it's fair to say that this brutal economic downturn took most Americans by surprise. It certainly shocked me. Even though I'm a journalist, I had no idea that mortgage companies were gaming the system by bundling risky loans and selling them to dunces at Lehman Brothers. I was clueless. In hindsight, I should have been more skeptical of the housing bubble.

The point is that concentrating on ideology instead of accumulating information can lead to a distorted view of reality. Many among the media these days are in business to promote a political philosophy rather than to protect the folks by exposing dangerous situations. Ideology has corrupted the watchdog press that our Founders envisioned.

Left to fend for themselves, the folks are gravitating toward news agencies that seemingly tell it like it is. Committed left-wing newspapers are folding in Seattle, Minneapolis and, perhaps, San Francisco. The New York Times had to borrow money from a Mexican guy at 14 percent interest, and far-left TV news operations are sinking fast.

President Obama still has wide support, but not fanatical support. Most of the folks simply want the truth, even though, these days, the truth can be hard to handle.

The big bubble right now is government growth. It was double the inflation rate under the Bush/Democrat Congress. Now it’s going to be triple or more under Obama/Democrat control. That’s the same rate of growth that the housing bubble had. When a government bubble bursts the misery lasts a generation.

Does he still have that “body expert”?

LOL - Yeah, she still comes on. After BOR was on The View he had her on several times evaluating his appearance with those women. BOR just loves attention. He really wants to be thought of as the main player amongst conservatives. This explains, in my opinion, his rabid envy of Rush Limbaugh.
BOR even stated, last week I believe, that Sarah Palin is mismanages by her staff. BOR's reasoning for saying this? Why because Sarah Palin has never appeared on his show. Between BOR and Obama I don't know which is more insecure.

O’Reilly will have Gingrich and Rove on, but if they stray from O’Reilly’s perception of reality, or position on an issue, her interrupts them, talks over them, or ‘moves on’. I watch the show, but except for a couple of things he cares about and acts on, O'R’s a buffoon.

Well him saying such does smell of hubris, but you still gotta ask why would she go on the Perky One's show and answer questions and NOT the Number one rated cable news show in the country.

It doesn't make sense.

MSM - Don't worry about the wet feeling on your leg. It's only rain.

Fox News - It ain't rain by a long shot.

I like O’Reilly. He shows the ability to continue to educate himself and improve.

Lancey, always good to meet a "glass half-full" guy when it comes to O'Reilly. I am indeed heartened, In fact, I predict that someday, while you, I, and BO are still on the planet, this guy just might openly endorse, or even, Praise the Lord, might himself vote for, a Republican.

BO is trying to drive the Democrat party of Boxer, Reid, Peolosi, and Obama, back toward the center, which for them is an extreme move to the right. He lives in the past, a Catholic Democrat Patriot remembering Harry Truman, and blindly pulling EVERY Democrat lever in sight. Same "folks" who returned Abscam Murtha to office last year.

Ask St. O'Reilly if he voted for Reagan.

Perhaps she wanted to be able to complete a sentence without being interrupted and talked over?

Oreilly makes me sick after Kissings Obamas Buut all through the Campaign so he would come on his SHOW ,now we cant say anything negative against the Lying Fraud .
Well I beg to differ ,this So called Stimulus is nothing but Reparations, no Matter how many times the fraud tries to say it is about creating Jobs, saying he is against the Fairness doctrine is another DISTRACTION from the real strategy to Institute LOCAL ownership of radio stations which will accomplish the same thing ,including control of the Internet.
Constantly using Class warfare the New Jeremiah Wright in the White House is nothing but a Poverty Pimp punk who is Lying through his teeth to the American People.
The only thing I regret is there is NO ONE standing up for traditional American Values that made this country Great . Is there Anyone that will have the Courage to stand up to this Usurper.
Jefferson wrote “If a Nation expects to be ignorant and Free,in a State of Civilization,it expects what never was and Never will be.
Samuel Adams wrote “The Utopian Schemes of Leveling{redistributionof the wealth} and a community of goods ,are as visionary and impractical as those which vest all property in the Crown. These ideas are arbitrary ,despotic, and in our Government Unconstitutional”

Dobbs is a fraud ,he never misses an oppurtunity to rip Bush . When Dobbs was on his rant about illegal immigration
during the Bush administration he kept saying this Bush Administration and this Republican Congress are terrible ,but he NEVER gave credit to the 16 House Republicans who stood in the way of total Amnesty ,and he still does not give any credit to the House Republicans who are the only ones who stand out against the Insanity now reigning in Washington.
Dobbs always gives this Bull about being an Independent ,what the Hell Crap is that, Dollar to a donut he voted for the Fraud Obama.

Well even post-election, Gov P remains elusive to the guest bookers at ‘The Factor’. Maybe she just doesn't care for BOR. He is a lousy interviewer in that he cuts people off mid-sentence and talks over his guests. BOR, in all his vanity, thinks nobody has anything of real importance to say but himself. And his incessant habit of referring to people by their surnames is affected, (he wants to be thought of as a ‘shot & a beer’ type intellectual), and his attempts at humor are at best lame.
I wouldn't be surprised if Palin truly loathed the man. She might even recall the 'Andrea Mackris incident' and gives the latter the benefit of the doubt. I know I would! LOL

I hate Obama. But, when I talk to people, I don't rant about how much I hate Obama. I spell out WHAT HE IS DOING to the country, our lives, our liberties, our freedoms. I talk about WHAT HE IS DOING. Not him. Screw him. It is the policies that are going to kill us. Defeat the policies and you defeat the pig.

......Dollar to a donut he voted for the Fraud Obama.

Look at the bright side. Like BOR, Dobbs, more than likely, only voted once for Obama. Both of these splendid fellows are Democrats who would never consider voting for, or endorsing, a Republican. Like the late Tim Russert. Like Chris Matthews.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Palin truly loathed the man."

Understood but I can't believe she likes Katie Couric any better and I would take an interview with BOR long before I would even consider talking to the Perky One.

Apparently you didn’t hear his recent radio show where he went on an extended rant against the ‘right wing lunatics’ that are all over talk radio.
No, I missed that. Big mistake on his part. He's thinks he's elevating himself "above all that", like he's better than everybody else. If O'Reilly doesn't understand that people see right through that kind of snobbishness, he's an idiot.
he made a couple of not so subtle references to Rush Limbaugh (big mouths with their fat cigars) during his rant. I totally lost any respect I had for him when I heard it.
To be fair, Rush has called BOR "Ted Baxter," so . . .

But then, IMHO Rush is right. BOR is not conservative, he is populist.

I agree, but it is actually clever to have a populist on at 8pm every night with features that will interest lots of folks not just conservatives. Even Sean Hannity has liberals on his show. How can you reach out to liberals to persuade them on the values of conservatism if you keep them off your show entirely? Let the people see the stupidity of liberalism in the prime time arena.
