'Pretty sad' Limbaugh's the lead GOP voice: Ron Paul @ 2:13 pm by Michael O'Brien
It is pretty sad that conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has become the de-facto voice of the Republican Party, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) said Monday.
"I think its pretty sad," Paul said during an appearance on CNN Monday morning. "And it means that the Republicans are really starving for some type of leadership."
"He really didnt broaden the base," the former Republican presidential candidate told the network's John Roberts. "I mean, its still very narrow, and that is why some of us would like to see an approach that would emphasize personal liberties and civil liberties."
Limbaugh's speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this past weekend has been the subject of much discussion on the left and the right, with a number of Republican leaders (such as Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele) sounding off on Limbaugh's role and influence within the GOP.
"I think a lot of people like to hear what hes saying, but I think its also a little bit polarizing and confrontational, and I think thats why the Democrats are bragging that Limbaugh now speaks for the Republicans," Paul added. "So I guess the Democrats think its to their advantage if hes leading the charge."
The Texas Republican also indicated there was little chance he would rekindle his presidential bid in 2012, opting instead to focus on his "Campaign for Liberty" fund.
And you did?
I don’t see anything disparaging to Rush in these remarks. I think Ron Paul is rightly acknowledging that the GOP is no longer representing the values of the conservative voters. I think a lot of people in the MSM are being divisive and cherry picking comments like those attributed to Paul in an attempt to marginalize Rush. Don’t buy into it. Michael Steele’s remarks were anti-Rush, stupid and off the mark, but I don’t think what Ron Paul says here is comparable to Steele’s remarks.
THAT is really gross!!!
Rush is the voice of the Conservative Movement. The Republican Party and the Conservative Movement are distant cousins during the best of times. At the present time they are fourth cousins twice removed. The Republican Party will not regain power until they regain their core values. Bambi’s socialism will fail, big time. It can do nothing else but fail. Socialism equals failure. Just ask the Pilgrims, the Russians, the Chinese, the Cubans, the Mongolians, the Eastern Europeans and anyone else who’s tried it. Once it has again been proven a failure, and my guess will be sooner rather than later, people will embrace what has been proven to work.
Oh boooooy. Time to go to a hockey game so I can see the PUCK FAUL.
You’re off base.
Ron has some good ideas.
But in some areas I see him as the Lyndon LaRouche of the Republican Party. Rush Doesn’t see his job as needing to stay in government. Therefore he is free to speak the truth.
Leaders are where you find them, Mr. Paul.
The Kucinich of the republicn party?
Imagine my suprise.
Memo went out today = Dump on Rush today and get even more free MSM love.
The more the RNC dumps on the conservatives, the more bullets they put into their own head. The Democrats must be lovin’ this.
I just contacted the RNC demanding my recent donation back and Ron Paul can shove himself up an a..hole large enough to accommadate him. Rush articulated RIGHT and what we as Americans believe. Where the hell do they (limp wristed repubics) think they would believe without the SOLID foundation we subscribe to.
Michael Steele can go straight to hell as well as Ron Paul.
RUSH & SARAH 2012!!!!!!
Pretty sad that Ron Paul is a nut
It’s ok, with his congressional retirement benefits, he’ll be able to continue that for the rest of his life, and his wife’s life, and probably wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve extended the benefits to go beyond such mere things as mortality.
It is sad...not that it is Rush that is leading, but that no one else in elected positions has the stones to step up and take on this challenge. The leadership void is astounding...has been for about 5 years now.
The GOP's bag men don't like it when elected representatives talk like that. Individual liberty is a lousy fund-raising gimmick - they want to stick with what they know: fear.
It is a coordinate plot, an agreement between Obama thugs and various Republicans to marginalize Rush. The blackmail? The fairness doctrine.
What’s really sad is that Republicans in Texas keep re-electing the RINO blame America first fruitcake.
