'Pretty sad' Limbaugh's the lead GOP voice: Ron Paul @ 2:13 pm by Michael O'Brien
It is pretty sad that conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has become the de-facto voice of the Republican Party, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) said Monday.
"I think its pretty sad," Paul said during an appearance on CNN Monday morning. "And it means that the Republicans are really starving for some type of leadership."
"He really didnt broaden the base," the former Republican presidential candidate told the network's John Roberts. "I mean, its still very narrow, and that is why some of us would like to see an approach that would emphasize personal liberties and civil liberties."
Limbaugh's speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this past weekend has been the subject of much discussion on the left and the right, with a number of Republican leaders (such as Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele) sounding off on Limbaugh's role and influence within the GOP.
"I think a lot of people like to hear what hes saying, but I think its also a little bit polarizing and confrontational, and I think thats why the Democrats are bragging that Limbaugh now speaks for the Republicans," Paul added. "So I guess the Democrats think its to their advantage if hes leading the charge."
The Texas Republican also indicated there was little chance he would rekindle his presidential bid in 2012, opting instead to focus on his "Campaign for Liberty" fund.
Hardly. Ron preaches limited government until it limits what he wants to do. The key step in the earmark process is getting it inserted, which Paul has done repeatedly for special interests. Paul can then vote against the spending bill itself, thereby claiming Constitutional purity. It's extremely dishonest. I'll stick with someone like Tom Coburn, who tries to block earmarks from happening, and can turn around and not be an antiwar nitwit like Paul.
Im reading this differently.
I read that Ron is saying it’s sad that Rush is leading the voice of the RNC (he’s not actually, but for the sake of the argument) and not someone who is in the capacity to lead the RNC isn’t speaking for conservative ideals.
Though, Ron is kind of an idiot so what do I know?
It is sad that a radio comentator is the leader of a political party and not the politicians who allegedly represent like minded voters,
GOP? = Gobs Of Poop
Hey,
What did you think of Ron Paul’s dumping on Rush today?
Yup, Ron, you’re a real leader.
Sorry, but it’s very very sad that a high school grad (Rush) totally out thinks, out argues, and out strategizes all you legal clowns in the GOP.
You’re history. Please go away and let we conservatives get about rebuilding the wreck you and the other non thinking loons have made of our party.
Whilst you’re at it, just become a dhimmicrat. You seem to fit right in.
*CORRECTION* Where the hell do they (...) think they would BE without the Solid foundation we subscribe to?
I was thinking the same thing when I heard this. The McCain rino-types are calling the shots.
They may tune in every once in awhile for an hour or so or listen to sound bites of his show played by the MSM but have no clue about his steadfast conservative principles.
I understand Ron Paul’s statement to not be a dump on Rush but to point out the fact that the RNC and the Republicans are no longer conservative, small government kinda people. Or at least the RINO’s in charge aren’t.
Limbaugh doesn’t presume to lead the GOP. Fight with the Democrats, Ron.
Congresscritter Paul should attempt to become a uniter within the party. You’d think that after co-habitating for years with demoncrats in the House, he’d be a little more tolerant of those who have better poll numbers than he.
How do you post pics?
Paul’s “expansion of the base” seems to include Truthers...
No thanks.
Sort of like saying if you can’t see them, they don’t exist, or if you believe something enough, it’s got to be true.
I wish everyone that read this thread wouldn’t fall into the kneejerk trap. Liberals want to divide and conquer us.
Reposting my arguments from the other thread:
We need a coalition of fiscal conservatives NOW. We can fight about stupid things from the past and social issue disagreements AFTER our free market society has been saved.
I applaud you for your activism, but what does that have to do with my point? The Big Tent everyone talks about is FISCAL CONSERVATISM and FEDERALISM. Ron Paul wants federalism. Libertarians want federalism. Conservatives want federalism. You want federalism. I want federalism. I can get most liberals and non-political types to agree with federalism once explained to them.
With federalism, most of our social issue arguments between various factions on the Right will go out the window. Roe v Wade? State issue. Drug War? State issue. And on and on.
That is where we need to get. Trashing other fiscal conservatives for their wacky views will get us nowhere. If theyre federalists and theyre not in your state, then their opinions should have no bearing on your state issues.
You have to pick your battles. Right now, there are only two political groups in my mind: Producers and their allies, and Leeches and their allies. This is the perfect chance to sell federalism to the Producers and allies.
Think of all the graffiti artists and poster makers he brought into the party.
