Small town late at night, and a cop sitting watching an intersection for two hours.

Here comes a nine year old pickup with a kid driving it.

“License and registration, please..did you know you have an intermittent tail light? Hey, what’s in that case in the back? Step out of the car...”

I’ve had similar things happen, once the cop got all warm and goosey about earmuffs in the back seat. He just KNEW I had guns and was going to shake me down until he found them.

A rifle, shotgun and some knives and accessories makes an arsenal now?

Looks like the AR might be a post-ban version which is legal in CT. Also the mags could be pre-bans, also legal. Even the evil 50 cal round is just a key chain. Course the reporter would never think to point that out. Best part is the catch all “appeared evasive” and gun case reason to detain the kid, search him and the vehicle.

Which means if he could legally own it in CT and in ME, the cops in MA can go pound sand. Try reading the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986.

Whadda bunch of crap....come on down to Louisiana, we’ll show ya what a real arsenal looks like. Mass. sucks. I lived/worked there in 1974 when they first passed that crap of a law of the automatic one year in jail etc. if you were caught with an unregistered firearm. I was originally from Maine. I had a 30-06 bolt-action rifle, a Colt Combat Commander .45 and a Ruger .22 Mark 1. I tried to get a temporary permit just to move em out of the state and back to Maine. Needless to say, they wouldn’t do it and wanted them “turned in”. In the dead of night, I hid everything in my car inside the garage where I was staying. The next morning, I loaded the .45 “cocked & locked”, placed it right beside me in the car and headed to Maine. I had absolutely NO intention of doing any automatic one year in jail term in some Masshole jailhouse....I had made my mind up that would shoot it out first. Fortunately, I made it to the NH border without incident. That was many years ago and I’ve since moved to Louisiana where I’ve remained quite “law-abiding” thank you. When you pass those kinds of laws, you make good people into criminals.

Sounds like Taxachusetts doesn’t take kindly to outsiders trespassing in their state. I’ll be sure never to visit the place.

That's okay, we're not real fond of them up here in NH.

Also, notice the irrelevant attack on home-schooling.

There's a very good reason why almost all the Afghanistanis in the United States live somewhere in Virginia.

I'd suggest this young man get out on bail and flee to Virginia!

One question for the cop lovers.

Was the cop that did this a good cop or a bad cop?

If you inforce immoral laws, are you still moral?

I don’t think an 18 yo can own an “assault weapon” in CT. The registration law would have already gone into effect.

IANAL, though.

From the State of CT:

Assault Weapons

Section 53-202a of the Connecticut General Statutes gives the definition, and an itemized list of what weapons are considered Assault Weapons.

Definition. (1) Any selective-fire firearm capable of fully automatic, semiautomatic or burst fire at the option of the user or any of the following specified semiautomatic firearms: List of Assault Weapons

Who may possess Assault Weapons in Connecticut?

Law enforcement and military personnel may possess Assault Weapons in connection with their official duties, and any person who has a Certificate of Possession issued by the Special Licensing and Firearms Unit may possess the Assault Weapon listed on their certificate.

Can I get a Certificate of Possession for my Assault Weapon now?

No. The only exceptions to this would be a person who has been out of state serving in the military prior to October 1994, or a person who receives an Assault Weapon through bequeath or intestate succession providing the weapon already had a certificate. In these instances, the person has 90 days to register the weapon with the Special Licensing and Firearms Unit

I just moved into Connecticut and I possess an Assault Weapon. May I keep the weapon or if not what are my options?

Within 90 days of moving to Connecticut, you may sell the weapon to any licensed gun dealer, or you must do one of the following;

1) render the weapon permanently inoperable,
2) sell it to an out of state dealer,
3) relinquish the weapon to a law enforcement agency.

If you choose to keep the weapon you risk felony arrest.

I never registered my Assault Weapon, What are my options?

You can only render it permanently inoperable, or relinquish it to a law enforcement agency.

Can Connecticut gun dealers buy or sell Assault Weapons?

A licensed gun dealer may purchase any Assault Weapon that has a Certificate of Possession, or any Assault weapon that has been transferred into Connecticut as part of someone’s personal belongings for less than 90 days. The dealer may then sell them to other dealers, law enforcement agencies, or out of state.

Can Police Officers buy Assault Weapons?

No. Police Departments can buy them and give them to their officers to use, although the individual officers cannot buy Assault Weapons.

So if this is (and by all appearances, it was) a post-ban Bushmaster, it’s legal per CT law as it does not have selectable fire. Semi-auto only.

The gun looks post-ban, ie. no flash hider, and a fixed stock.

Those are not "assault weapons" by definition, if CT used the descriptive definition as the feds. Bushmaster, nor, XM-15E2 (what Bushmaster calls their AR's) are not listed by name in CT.

I think he needs a lawyer, one able to argue in federal court.

In Massholechusetts possession of an empty cartridge is considered illegal possession of ammo.
